I've always wanted slightly more prominent...

I've always wanted slightly more prominent cheekbones; they're naturally quite high, but aren't terribly noticeable, especially in comparison to my strong chin, jaw, and brow bone. I also have a lot a lot of volume in my lower cheeks and fairly noticeable nasolabial lines. When I learned that fillers were an option for adding volume and contour to the cheeks, I started researching what they could do for me and learned that they could also lift the lower parts of the cheek and nasolabial lines.

Never having gotten fillers before, I was a bit nervous and very picky when I searched for a dermatologist or plastic surgeon. I found Dr. Khan here on Real Self, and felt that her reviews reflected what I was looking for in a doctor. I was able to schedule an appointment quickly and the kind receptionist blocked out an hour in case I wanted the procedure done the same day as my consultation.

I expressed my desires to my PS who suggested Ultra Plus instead of Voluma because of infections that other plastic surgeons saw in patients after using Voluma. She drew several lines and a couple circles on my cheeks and then began to inject 0.8cc's in my right cheek and 1.2cc's in my left cheek. Her nurse applied a ice gel compress to my cheek between injections. It took maybe 20 minutes at most and my PS gave me a mirror to see the changes as they progressed and guide her to where I wanted more filler.

She told me that it should last 6-9 months and that swelling and bruising should subside after about a week. She did hit one blood vessel on the right side of my face and I have about a dime sized pink-brown bruise and some firm swelling there. They were a bit sore the first day and it hurt to smile or yawn until the day after. Besides that, I think they look awesome and have improved the overall look of my face while still being subtle enough that no one noticed I had anything done.

I'll keep updating as they change, but I expect that I'll get them done again in the future.

Dr. Khan was very professional and easy to talk to. She has a great eye for facial contouring, and seems to be a perfectionist. She is light-handed and conservative with her technique and cares about what's in the patient's best interest.
