Circumferential Abdominoplasty

Today I'm 6 days post-op and feeling pretty good. I'm 50 years old, lost over 1/2 my body weight after having Gastric Sleeve surgery in 2012 and although I exercise 5-7 days a week, it did nothing for vast amounts of loose skin. I decided to meet with 3 surgeons and they all recommended a "Circumferential" vs. an "Extended" Abdominoplasty.

On 11/25 I had surgery, it took approximately 4 hours and was uneventful. I don't tolerate anesthesia very well and woke up with nausea/vomiting and a killer migraine headache. While I had a morphine pain pump, according to the Nursing staff, I didn't use it very much. I went home after the required overnight stay with four drains. I don't really care for the side effects of narcotics, so even though I was prescribed Percocet, I only took one the night I got home from the hospital.

The first night home was rough since it was difficult to find a comfortable position to sleep. Since then I've been sleeping in a recliner propped up with pillows. Since I have 2 drains on each hip, I can't sleep on my sides so the recliner is the most comfortable option for me. During the first two days home I just rested in the chair, walked around the house a bit and just tried to stay comfortable. I took Ibuprofen twice daily, Arnica for bruising/swelling, stayed hydrated and ate pineapple, which is supposedly helpful with healing. Really didn't have an appetite, but forced myself to eat foods high in protein.

Today I had my first follow-up appointment, the doctor removed 3 of the 4 drains and commented that everything looked fantastic and that surgery went great. I'm scheduled to go back on Friday (10 days post-op) to have the remaining drain removed. I still have a little swelling in my lower abdomen and the entire area is numb (I've read this is common). I also noticed some bruising, especially on my buttocks around the incision line. My doctor used dissolvable stitches on all of the incisions then covered them with surgical glue. He says the glue will start to flake off after 2 weeks and the stitches will dissolve on their own. At about this time I should be able to start scar treatment. I currently use Biocorneum on my breast lift scars and plan to use either that or silicone sheets on my tummy tuck scars.

So far, so good. I'm looking forward to having the remaining drain removed and being able to get back to some light exercise. I do Barre, but that'll have to wait until after the New Year. I hope to get the best results and don't want to do anything to compromise all the work my surgeon has done.

It's been over 2 years since having a sleeve...

It's been over 2 years since having a sleeve gastrectomy and more than a year having maintained over a 100 lb. weight loss. No amount of exercise has helped to reduce the amount of saggy skin around my stomach, buttocks and upper thighs.
After consulting with 3 surgeons, all 3 recommended a Circumferential Body Lift. I decided to schedule surgery for November 25th and I haven't told anyone except for my husband and my youngest daughter, who still lives at home. I hope the surgery gives me the final result that I'm hoping for since I've worked so hard to lose the excess weight that I had put on over a 30 year period. I really worry about the recovery period and losing muscle tone since I won't be able to exercise for about a month or so.
