After much thought and consideration as to if I...

After much thought and consideration as to if I wanted to go through eyelid surgery and whom I would choose to do it, I finally took the plunge. I am 52 and have had hooded eyelids for many years now. My father also had hooded eyelids, and as he got older, it began to interfere with his vision causing him to need surgery. I was not yet to that point, but I’m sure over time, the same would eventually happen. I chose surgery now, because I felt I was in good health and could recover faster and easier at this stage in my life. I work out with weights and do cardio on a regular basis, don’t smoke, and have no health issues which would contribute significantly to making the surgery and recovery more successful.

I read up on all the risks involved and problems that could arise, and that is why I chose a doctor in my area that was board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a member of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Living in a border city, there are many who cross the border into Mexico to have cosmetic surgery done so that they can save a buck. While having a consultation with Richard Dale Reynolds MD, I read a sign that said….” The bitterness of low quality remains long after the sweetness of a low price are forgotten”. That message could not be truer. This was not an area where I was concerned about saving money. It was my eyes, and I only have one set. I would like to mention, though, I feel Dr. Reynolds prices are reasonable for the area I live in.

I am 19 days post surgery, and thus far, I am very happy with the results. I now have eyelids that show, and because I also elected to have a brow lift done for optimal results, it made a considerable difference with the frown lines between my eyes. That was a bonus! As far as my recovery is concerned, so far it’s what I expected. I pretty much stayed at home the first 2 weeks. Not because I felt bad, but to give myself appropriate time to heal. My swelling and bruising have been minimal, actually a lot less than what I had observed in many pictures. But I can honestly say, I followed pre and post instructions exactly as I was told. I also believe that a skilled doctor and good health added to that as well. When it comes to my incisions/scars, I am choosing to not make any judgments this soon out. I have realistic expectations and realize that scars take time to look their best. At this point, they look par for the course, and it would be unreasonable to make any assumptions or to believe that they will not heal properly and look great in time.

Dr. Reynolds is caring, patient, practiced, and approachable. In my consultation, he took his time answering all my questions and explained the procedure comprehensively. He listened to what I wanted and what I didn’t want to achieve my desired look. After I left the consultation, he still made himself accessible to any questions or fears that I had. The day of the procedure, he was calm, went over any last minute questions, proficient, and can I just add once more….PATIENT. (Which comes as a plus when you are about to bust a gut during surgery and need a bathroom break.) Not sure if that has happened on his watch before, but he was very understanding in assisting the issue. His facility, where I chose to have the surgery, is state of the art and extremely clean. I could not ask for better after care. Dr Reynolds contacted me at home after surgery checking to make sure all was ok. I was given his cell phone number as well as his nurse’s cell phone number for any concerns, or emergencies. I was seen the following day and then a week later to have my stitches removed, with more follow-ups to come. During my two weeks at home, I did have a question in which Dr Reynolds quickly got back with me. I am more than pleased with my decision to choose Dr Reynolds. I’m happy to see there are exceptional plastic surgeons where I live. PS. Dr Reynolds’s staff is warm and also exceedingly caring. Kimberly, Norma, and Betty are a few of the ones, who have been of great assistance to me during the process, a true asset to the practice.
