Ok, just beginning my journey. I'm doing something just for me, that I've wanted for years. I have my first consultation next week and I have no idea what to expect. I have pictures of what I'd like, but it sounds like the result is mostly dependent on what you already have to work with. I've including pictures of what I have currently and what I'd like to end up with (not necessarily that big) What questions should I ask at my visit and what can I expect? Thank you so much for your input!

Here's our research http://vchics.com/vchics/?p=101 but generally - 1 - go as large as the doc will let you - as #1 comment is often heard is "I thought they would be bigger. 2 - under the muscle 3 - under the crease is a fav (not through the nipple) 4 - high profile is increasingly popular and they look good too people will generally know if you have implants so "get over" the fact that you have them -)

I agree with going as big as possible. But if you've never breastfeed consider the pain that come with the stretching of your skin. Just be prepared. I went high profile 430 cc, saline through areola.

Are you considering gel or saline?

oh right - silicon is a big fav !

Silicone, inframammary incision, under the muscle, high profile. Probably between 213-265 cc's. I have a petite frame, so although the high profile wasn't what I thought I wanted before I went in for my consult, both my doctor and I agreed that that profile is what looks best with my body shape.

Let me know when you get booked for surgery. I am booked for June 23rd, so we may be around the same time:) I had my consult already but my doctor gives me most of the info I need to know at the pre-op, also size will be decided then as well. I am hoping to get b/w 450-475cc HP cohesive gel under the muscle. Crease incision is supposed to have the least amount of complications. I am about the same size as you right now.

My first consultation is June 23 I am sooooo scared... I cry looking at myself everyday... I've wanted this for a long time but honestly I am petrified! I've nursed 6 children and I'm nearly flat... I often dread driving my kids to school ... Junior high students are bigger than me

Dont be scared. If you are doing this for the right reason (for yourself) then go for it! Thousands of women do every day. Ive done a TON of research and that helped me a lot, especially this site. This is supposed to be something positive experience : ) That being said, if youre not totally sure, take some time, do some more research and think it over. No reason to be in a rush. Good luck!

Jewlz, im booked for May 30th. Im so glad i could get in so soon because I won't have to obsess over this any longer than I need to!

Also, submitting pictures of myself and the look I hoped for has been really helpful. I learned from surgeons who responded to my post that your current anatomy is the deciding factor in what you'll end up with. This helped me have a more realistic and informed conversation with my doctor when I had my consultation. Also, because I get anxious about stuff I was able to get information that helped me along the way while I bided my time before my appointment. I tend to overthink things and this site helped me feel more comfortable.

What's your opinion on having to either get them removed or replaced in 10-15 years? I need to do this and will... I feel like I can't keep living like this... I want to be happy again and make love to my husband with the lights on ;)
May 21, 2014
That's great! I feel the same... Obsess any longer ... Move on and be happy ;) good job!
May 21, 2014
Oh awesome! You are sooo lucky. I'm finding the wait is the worst part! Lol. What have you decided to go with?
User Avatar
May 21, 2014
Why will you have to remove/replace in 10-15 years? Because of the manufacturer's "expiration date" (or whatever you call it) on the lifetime of the implants?
May 21, 2014
I've been researching for years ... I even know a few... They all say that yes implants are not a one time lifetime deal... I haven't gone for a consultation yet but having to redo in the future doesn't sound appealing...

At both my consults I was told silicone should be replaced every 10 years and that saline could be left alone until they ruptured/leak.
User Avatar
May 22, 2014
Oh wow, I wasn't told that. I guess that's a good topic I should bring up at my last pre-op appointment!

Smiles4miles and So Broken, I did some more research and there's good stuff from doctor's on this site. The general consensus seems to be that although there is a "life span" on implants (not intended to be life long devices), the vast majority of women live their whole life with their original set of implants. Unless something goes wrong, such as a rupture, there is no need to replace them. I guess regular mammograms (and possibly MRI's with silicone) are probably important. Good to know!!

Thank you so much for your comments, everyone! Im thinking (and again, I haven't had my consult yet) silicone, round, moderate profile. I did breastfeed my son (and also had a c-section, so hoping the pain and recovery from this is a little better!!) so I do remember the feeling of getting engorged and the skin stretching. Yes, i dont want to have "buyer's remorse" afterwards an wish I'd gone bigger, but I don't want to look like a [RS bleep] star either, lol!! Jewlz, i will definitely let you know when I book, how exciting for both of us! :)

I have been getting some really great feedback, both from other women seeking/receiving breast augmentation and from doctors! The information offered by the surgeons is so helpful in my preparation for my consultation. I'm so glad I found this site, thank you everyone!

If your looking for something to compare to, check out my status. I received 225 (filled to 230) smooth moderate silicone unders. I wanted 250-275 however due to my small breast width and rib cage the 225 was best. If I wanted to go any higher without having a uni boob or extensive side boobs I'd have to choose a higher profile, which my surgeon felt has a tendency to show seams when placed. Since it's a smaller implant I feel my recovery has been pretty easy, I even stopped by target after my surgery to pick up something lol.

Thank you, thats helpful. Its hard to not overthink the details because this is a life-changing, pretty permanant decision! I have to remind myself to have faith in my surgeon, after all, he's the expert! :)

Smilesformiles, what cup size did you end up with?
User Avatar
May 21, 2014
I don't know yet, I'm only 1 week post op and they still need to drop and fluff. I had my first post op visit yesterday and my surgeon told me to expect them to become more fuller on the bottom as the top flattens out. I'm expecting a full B/small C. I never wanted to go big- I'm not the type who wore padded bras or cutlets to appear larger and I didn't want to be obvious. I always preferred lightly lined bras or going braless (I learned to dress for my body type).
User Avatar

Ok, that's around the size I'm hoping for, too. I don't wear that stuff, either. It feels like false advertising, lol! I gave up at some point and decided to just get bras in the little girls' section of stores. Saves some money, I guess :-p

Lol I started doing that too. I probably knew I wanted to get this done when my oldest daughter started developing breasts and realized I could pass the ones I already have on to her. My tween had larger breasts than me and I felt like the child.
May 21, 2014
I have an idea of size I want but when it comes down to it I'll be going as big as the surgeon will let me. I think that's good advice:) from what I've seen most people wish they went a bit bigger.
User Avatar
May 21, 2014
Yes, i think its best to follow the doctor's advice because they obviously have the expertise and recommend a particular size because they are taking in lots of variables that we don't necessarily understand (all the measurements, nipple placement, symmetry, etc.)

So close, and yet so far

One week until my procedure. Aaahh, the time is going so slowly! I can hardly sleep at night and my work days just crawl by. If anybody has any suggestions on how to magically make time go by faster, I'm all ears :) I went to the store yesterday to try to stock up on things I might need. For food; Gatorade, instant rice, soup, jello, canned peaches and a couple of bland frozen meals. I bought a body pillow and a couple of other pillows to prop me up for sleeping. Extra Ibuprofen. I made sure that I had some comfortable clothes that will be easy to put on. I tried to find a bra that clasps in the front, as others had suggested, but I couldn't find any. Not sure where to get those. Is there anything I am missing that others found helpful??

You will want something to help with constipation from the meds - either extra fiber, senna tea, laxatives - whatever you prefer. It seems to be common among us who got a BA to suffer from feeling very bloated the first few days. I'd move anything you would typical store up high but use regularly in a lower location. I ended up putting a bag of dog food on a chair near my dog's feeding area to avoid lifting it...just little things like that can make it so much easier. Oh! And when you get your meds if possible request them in an EASY to open bottle, not the child proof ones. I like the Target pharmacy ones though I didn't get my prescription there and was stuck with bottles you had to push down and twist open- impossible after a BA. I transferred the pills to baggies or spare bottles I had after my sister opened them for me. I also recommend a probiotic to prevent a yeast infection from the antibiotics they give you.

The probiotics are an excellent call. One yogurt a day would work for me plus it isn't pill form. I hate taking pills. Thank god I have high tolerance for pain. Usually I don't need to take any!

That's really hopeful..... I'm tired of using breast creams and pills praying they will actually work someday... Just makes me so sad how tiny I am... I've never been this small... :(
