Background: I had upper eyelid procedure done elsewhere (Arizona) about 4 years ago. After that, I had been left with deformed contour of the upper lid margins of both eyes. The left eyelid was particularly bad; the inner portion of the eyelid skin sagged down towards the sclera (white part of eye) while the middle portion had a retracted peak, which creating a very unnatural, alien appearance. The eyelids also appeared very asymmetrical compared to one another. I had undergone several revisions over the course of over a year with the original plastic surgeon to correct this and was unable to accomplish satisfactory results. Eventually I gave up trying. I honestly lost any self-confidence I had. I would hide from taking any pictures. I never smiled. I never looked anyone in the eyes anymore. I felt like an alien. For 4 years, I looked at myself several times a day in the mirror and felt so bad about myself.

Fast forward 4 years, I moved to Miami and decided to reconsider revision. I found Dr. Martin through recommendation during another plastic surgeon consultation. This surgeon recommended Dr. Martin as he specialized in oculofacial procedures. I was able to schedule my complimentary consultation relatively quickly. Dr. Martin was extremely nice and talked about what he could try to revise my eyelid. He listened closely to what my concerns were and what I was looking for. He provided an estimate which was very affordable. Afterwards, the office worked with my schedule to fit me in within the next few weeks to have my procedure.

Surgery: Dr. Martin had a small, but nice surgical suite in office. His surgical assistant was nice as well. He talked me through what was about to be done and what he was doing during the surgery. We exchanged casual talk and even laughed some, as I am sure he knew I was so nervous about going through this again. I went through the normal post-procedure swelling and bruising, which went down within a couple weeks. At first I was not sure what the end result would be since I had been disappointed time and time again in the past but I tried to be optimistic.

Today, I feel great! I think Dr. Martin did a wonderful job with the revision of my left eyelid! I no longer think my eye looks "alien." I smile a lot more. I actually look people in the eyes again. I don't dread about having my picture taken anymore. My eyes are more symmetrical and natural appearing. There is still scar healing and normal redness, but that is the least of my concerns and will eventually fade. In fact, I think Dr. Martin's suturing technique actually will have improved appearance compared to the previous deep scar that was left.

At this time, we are also working to correct a scar on the opposite eyelid that was worsened and made longer and longer by the previous surgeon after repeated attempted revisions. Dr. Martin recommended laser treatments and also had alternatives for what he could try in the future. It would be a nice touch to have my old scars fixed up a little, but right now I am just happy about the revision Dr. Martin already did! I *finally* feel relatively "normal" again after 4 years of feeling self-conscious every single day. I have to thank Dr. Martin for being able to fix what hadn't been corrected by the other plastic surgeon. He is a great overall plastic surgeon with a great demeanor!
