Reviews you can trust, from real people like you.
How it works
  • Our highly-trained Review Moderation team evaluates all reviews before they're published to ensure they're written by people like you and not a member of a doctor's office.
  • This multi-step process takes up to 24 hours from review submission to publication.
  • Doctors can't pay to have reviews removed or hidden.
  • Reviews are only removed at the reviewer's request or if they violate our Terms of Service.

If you have questions or believe we should re-evaluate a published review, let us know.

As some of you may now I have carefully documented...

As some of you may now I have carefully documented several procedures on Real Self with amazing feedback from the community (as well as from my surgeon) and I thought it would be helpful to chronicle my latest self-improvement adventure.

In 2008 during a trip to Austin - and while dating a guy who loved tattoos, naturally - I decided to pop into a funky-looking shop and get a tattoo on my upper back (ugh). I chose a black outline of a stingray, a creature I had always admired for its grace and stealth beauty. I imagine a delicate, flowing, stylized interpretation of a stingray, perhaps in mid air. What I got, for some unknown reason, is a blotchy, blurred animal that sort of looks like a kite. :(

I can usually ignore it as it is literally behind me but lately I've gone back to work in an office and on days when I'm not wearing a high-neck shirt it looks awful. It is an angry blotch.

I looked up tattoo removal places and came upon three local ones that seemed to have their act together online (never underestimate the importance of what your Internet presence says about your business!!). I filled out online questionnaires for all three:

1. Never called me for a consultation.
2. Called me but could not answer anything without me going in to the office. I asked for an idea on pricing (is it $100? $1000??), the person on the phone seemed disinterested and uninformed. I suspect her job description is one sentence long: Get them into the office.
3. The third one offers a feature where you can upload a picture of the tattoo (with a quarter or dollar next to it for perspective) and they will provide you with a quote. What a concept!

This third place is L'Arte Della Belleza here in Miami (Coral Gables to be exact).

I received a call from the wonderful Andretti (as in Mario) and he was able to tell me the following on the phone:

1. Each treatment would be $200
2. I would likely need between 3 and 6 treatments
3. My tattoo would not be a challenging one as it is small, black and somewhat faded already.

Andretti was so professional, friendly, un-shady and helpful on the phone I decided to make an appointment for Monday.

Stay tuned.
