CoolSculpting - Getting Rid of Stubborn Abdominal Fat

I got into fitness about 3 years ago. I'm 5'4'' and reached my peak weight of 160 lbs when i decided i needed to lose weight - i was too young to have such unhealthy habits. I started hitting the gym 5 times a week and dropped to 125 lbs in about 5 months. i became infatuated with the gym - it is my de-stressor and my sanctuary. i like to think i am a fit individual, and i have a curvy rather than an athletic build, after i lost all the weight i started to put on muscle and my weight stabilized around 140-145 (this has been my normal weight for about a year and a ahalf now). in january of this past year i hit a bit of a plateau with my fitness progress decided to challenge myself to putting on mass - my goal was and *still* is to put on muscle mass. With this new plan in place i changed my diet to accommodate my goals - this meant increasing my calorie intake, however, my mistake was i never went to see a nutritionist. I tried to figure it out on my own and while i have put on muscle, i unfortunately gained some unwanted weight in my abdominal area.... so HERE WE ARE.

For those of you who might not know, targeted fat loss is impossible. i struggled with trying to put on mass while simultaneously keeping fat off my midsection, and while i've seen an improvement, i decided i was going to employ some additional help - cue the coolsculpting.

i began my search on yelp for medical spas that offered coolsculpting. oout of the many that came up in the Tristate area i landed on Youtherapy in Scarsdale, NY and Greenwich Medical Day Spa in Greenwich, CT. i got free consultations at both locations, however, after comparing costs and convenience, i went with Youtherapy. they offered financing options via carecredit and they were very affordable - which was important to me because i knew i didn't really NEED the treatment i just wanted an extra push.

during the consultation at youtherapy, Dawn asked me what i was looking for out of the treatment, we went over what the course of treatment would be, and she told me she could get me in as soon as I wanted to. i made th appointment for the following saturday.

the day of the trestment came and i arrived on time, they promptly brought me back to the room. Dawn came in and we had a quick chat as a refresher on what we were going to do and as we had previously discussed she marked me for two "Cool Fit" applicators along my lower abdomen. she did one at a time as there was some overlap in the middle with the applicators. each applicator was on for 35 minutes.

she sat me in a comfy recliner chair and began setting me up for the treatment. she put a sticky cloth that acts as a barrier between your skin and the applicator and then put the applicator. She made sure i was comfortable and asked me if i needed anything before turning the machine on.

once the coolsculpting machine starts, its a bit of an uncomfortable feeling. I have a rather high tolerance for pain, so i can't say it hurt, but the first five minutes before the skin goes numb, is incredibly uncomfortable.. i can only equte to when your extremities get really cold in the winter time - thats what it felt like. once the skin was numb it was fine. i began reading and just relaxed. Dawn checked up on me periodically to make sure i didnt need anything.

After an hour my treatment was done. the feeling when they take the applicator off for me was slightly painful, like when the blood begins rushing back to the application site. again, the only thing i can compare it to is when your out int he winter for a while and your fingers and hands are cold, that feeling when you get back inside the warmth and it kinda hurts? like that.. Dawn massaged the areas after finishing and then took pictures for my file so we can compare when i go back.

I will say, i experienced some diziness and feelings of nausea once i got off the chair - this was actually int he waiver i signed before hand. i believe its because i had only had breakfast HOURS prior, so i would definitely suggest not going in on an empty stomach.

its been a 5 days since the treatment and my skin isn't really tender, but it is still slightly numb. it's also kind of swollen.. but i'm so excited to see the results slowly start to show. I have a follow up appointment in about 2 months. Will try to update in a month :)
