WORTH IT$2,900
I’m trying six sessions of Vanquish on my abs before moving to liposuction.
[[[Context: I had a great consult about vaser liposuction. The cost of abs, flanks and bra line would be $7800. The $7800 included $1800 for anaesthesia because the goal was to remove three liters of fat and anything above two liters would be performed in a surgical type of center and not in the doctor’s office and would require deeper anesthesia. For the record, I am not against liposuction. I want to try Vanquish as a non invasive option first, however, even with the cost.]]]
Last year (about a year after having a kid) I tried a series of treatments from a Tristar device and had good results. Search for "tristar aesthetic technologies" and . I had a series of eight treatments that included “high intensity lights,” "lipo sculpt lite," "ultrasound cavitation," "thermo lift" and radio frequency. The UC and RF were administered by a technician with a wand and the laser lights were six lights placed on my abdomen. This is what you often see advertised on Groupon and I bought a Groupon, used it and then purchased a larger package. I had good results from that service. It seemed to make all of my (6 to 9 month post partum) jiggly fat get denser and stop looking so darn loose. After researching the procedures I saw that they say that they “help fat cells release their contents” but they don’t actually destroy fat cells. I googled the machine and it looks like it costs $21,000 to purchase and they run as franchises.
After that Tristar experience, I realized that I want to destroy fat cells for good. That’s why I’m trying Vanquish and why I will also consider lipo in the future. Vanquish advertising says that it actually kills the fat cells. That’s what I want.
This is the curse of being strong and fit and thick - I need to remove the fat. Upon arrival for my first appointment, they use a scale to measure weight, hydration and body fat. I was 168.8 pounds (166 at daybreak before hydration for the day begin), 40% body fat and 40.5 hydration. I’m dismayed by my body fat percentage but that’s why I’m here! I have ALWAYS had a thick waist even as a kid and I have always pretty much looked kind of pregnant.
My variables and how I live:
- Gym five to six days a week for 40-50 minutes of cardio and 10 minutes of weights and weight machines
- Plastic IUD (safe with Vanquish and also I think that an IUD helps maintain hormonal consistency which reduces the level of monthly hormonal weight fluctuations)
- Primarily pescatarian diet with meat maybe five times a week
- Daily vegan protein shake
- Some dairy but no milk (only almond milk/creamer)
- My measurements are 36-38-42 and I am 5’4” and weigh 166 when I get up in the morning.
- I’m 37, have a two year old and am not having any more kids.
I think I am a good candidate and am hopeful about the results because going through last year’s little Groupon Tristar treatments, spending the last year at the gym five or six days a week and transitioning to a primarily pescatarian diet has helped me look thinner than I was. I still have a lot of fat (as evidenced by my current percentage and soon to be posted photos) but it literally all sits on my abs. When I flex my abs if you push through two to three inches of fat there is like a wall of muscle. So the fat is right on top of strong muscle.
I think I am getting the Vanquish ME because it is three different cycles at 15 minutes each as opposed to a 30 minute single cycle. There are different levels of the treatment (you start at 160 which is tolerable by most) and it goes up to 200. The goal is to have a high percentage of the treatment/heat affecting the fat cells, so it’s better to have a lower treatment level with a higher percentage. In other words: treatment level of 160 with 95% effectiveness is better than treatment level of 190 with 70% effectiveness.
I am going to do six treatments one week apart. There might be a two week break between the 4 and 5 treatment. The cost is $2400 for four or $2900 for six. (Columbus, Ohio)
I typically drink 32 ounces or more of water, have a protein shake, coffee and an iced coffee daily. The day before my first treatment I had 60 ounces of water, coffee, an iced coffee and 8 ounces of white wine. The day of my first treatment I had 50 ounces of water and coffee and I did NOT work out to make sure dehydration would not be an issue. (It was a 10:00 a.m. appointment)
After my first treatment I can clearing say that this is literally the easiest thing in the world. I was able to keep my phone and have it on airplane mode. The first 15 minute cycle we did at 160 and I had 100% tuning. The next cycle is at 170 and I remained at 100% tuning. It feels warm and a little weird like what you imagine an x-ray would feel like if you could feel an x-ray at the dentist or something. The 170 feels more intense than the 160 like it kind of makes me want to clench my teeth but it doesn’t quite hurt? It’s kind of like there’s a pulling up but it’s not painful, just weird.
About halfway through the second cycle my sides felt tense and sore. Moving the panels helped.
The nice thing about the cycles is that you can take a bathroom break in between cycles! Hah!
The final cycle was at 190 and I had 95% tuning. The side panels were moved out a bit and so it felt more intense in the center.
The technician shared that tuning is easier with larger patients which makes perfect sense. I am here and happy to be tuned well! Haha. But seriously. I feel a difference even during and I’m excited to see the possibilities.
I will post photos soon.

Subtle progress on day 5?
The first photo I took on day 2 (forgot to take photos on day 1 before the first treatment.) The second photo is day 5. I see a subtle difference.
My sides above my hipbones are really sore, right where I had some hot spots during the first treatment. It’s really firm there as well, like there is less fat underneath. On the front of my abdomen it feels kind of like the fat is condensed and more resting on top of the muscle.
Maybe this is all confirmation bias, but if these subtle changes are happening five days after one treatment I’m excited about future progress.
