I had a significant gap in front teeth due to an enlarged frenum, causing my two front upper teeth to be pushed to the sides and crooked. This has always been the case. As a child, braces were recommended, but my parents couldn't afford them, so I lived until now with the crooked tooth smile (I'm 30 now) I got them put on in April of 2015. There was no pain until the arch wire was put in, but that subsided in a day. Still discomfort, but it's a new appliance in your mouth so what do you expect? After 3 weeks I could already see an improvement. In may, I had my first round of power chain bands installed..that hurt. But again, only for the first day or two. (Eat soft foods, and brush often!) Every 3 weeks they were replaced, until in late may I had double power chains. The worst part is getting them put back on again..But as before, a day after, I couldn't feel it anymore. But my goodness, the change it does was awesome. Those were replaced on 3 week intervals until today, when the brackets finally came off! They shaved all of the composite from the brackets off, and performed a frenectomy with a laser. That didn't hurt at all, but was also under local anesthesia. Also reshaped my gums. On the same day, they took molds of my teeth, and made a clear retainer. So now I'm wearing them for two months all day except when I eat. Also wearing at night. I'm very pleased, and I look like a different person! I'll recommended fast braces to anyone who asks :-)
