Congenital Ptosis Repair with Marcus Gunn Syndrome. Colton, CA

WORTH IT
I was born with congenital Ptosis with the added crappy bonus of Marcus Gunn syndrome (often called “jaw wink”). If you have been born with Ptosis you know the lack of confidence that comes with this condition. For years I hid from pictures and looking at people. I was constantly bombarded throughout my life with the same question, "What happened to your eye?" If you have Ptosis you know what I am talking about, something so stupid brings out the rudeness in people which erodes your confidence even further. I had been to at least two consultations with other doctors about getting my Ptosis repaired, but honestly these physicians (although probably technically good) just did not give me the confidence I needed in them to repair my lid so for years I put it off. Fast forward to my mid thirties and I decided to get a consultation with Dr. Vidor. I was immediately impressed by the aesthetically pleasing office as well as its cleanliness and warmness of the staff (especially his super sweet and amazing nurse Sue). Once I actually met Dr. Vidor for the first time in 35 plus years I actually felt comfortable enough to want to pursue the procedure so less than 2 months later I was in the office to get the procedure done. The actual procedure was super easy, fast and truthfully painless both during and after the surgery (I did not even have to take a Tylenol). I got some numbing shots but did not have to be sedated at all, yes, there is discomfort, but it's only slight and the results are amazing. The subsequent recovery was super easy too; just some swelling and juicing of my eye but that most of that quickly subsided within 4 days. I am so ecstatic that I got the surgery, I can now look people in the eye and welcome pictures and my confidence is now starting to build after hiding from looking at people for so many years. Beyond Dr. Vidor's exquisite surgical skills with my Ptosis repair, I recently had cosmetic filler injected in my tear troughs (an area that is notoriously hard to treat) and the results are amazing. Almost 2 years ago I had filler with not so great results so I was hesitant to do it again but as usual Dr. Vidor delivered with my new injections all the while listening to what I wanted. My results are so beautiful and natural looking and I could not be happier. Dr. Vidor is hands down the best physician I have ever been to, he is down to earth, has a sense of humor, is a perfectionist and always listens to his patients. An added bonus is his staff is also amazing, from his amazing and most wonderful nurse Sue to everyone in the office, they all go out of their way to treat you like a valued patient. I truly hope Dr. Vidor never leaves the area as I will certainly be a lifelong patient of his for all of my eye and cosmetic needs.

Hello - My 2 year old son has both Ptosis and MG Wink - he is getting the surgery next month because the ptosis is impacting his vision. I'd love to know more about how MG impacts you as an adult. Thanks -

For me the ptosis was always the biggest issue because that is what was most noticeable. My Marcus Gunn is not that big of a deal to me, yes it bounces around when I chew but I generally don't eat around those that don't love me so I am not too embarrassed about it. My wonderful doctor was very aware of my Marcus Gunn and under corrected my ptosis because of my jaw wink. My lid changes shape often because of the Marcus Gunn and the differing facial expressions I make. It is very weird, sometimes my eye will look smaller then the other or bigger then the other, it just depends on my facial expression. I am just super happy that most of the time I look normal now. Yes, prepare your son that people will be very rude about the jaw wink but be grateful he will never have to shy away from pictures or hear people asking him what is wrong with his eye from the ptosis. Repairing the ptosis will spare him so much emotional suffering. If you have not, get a few consultations, I had a few doctors that never even said a word about my jaw wink in conjunction with the ptosis repair. It does matter to have someone experienced with this condition that is aware of all of the aspects of Marcus Gunn and the effects of facial movement on the size of the lid. Please let me know if you have anymore questions

That is awesome, hoping I can find a doctor to do the same for me..
How much did this cost you, did your insurance cover it?

No, my insurance did not cover it since it did not impede my vision and was considered cosmetic. It was under $2,000 and my doctor was nothing short of amazing!!! I am still super happy with the results. Please let me know if I can answer anymore questions

I have a son with Tsosis and Marcus Gunn jaw winking syndrome and your story is so positive and reassuring that it might be enough for me to have my son’s tsosis repaired. Can you tell me what procedure you had done? And I know it’s a long shot but could you possibly text me with the details of your procedure? We just want the best for him and are unsure of what to do.... My name is Mike and my number is 631-680-0031. I would be forever in your debt if you could take a couple minutes and shoot me a text. Thanks

I called and left you a message as I don't have text. Growing up with this is very difficult, however I can say 100 percent the trials I went through as a kid and adult made me a way better person than if I would have not been born with this. Because of being made fun of, I became an extremely compassionate person that rescues animals and helps others. In hindsight, I can say that life as a kid would have been so much easier without this, but as I said it made me a better person. Now it it were my own kid, knowing what I want through, I would probably get them the surgery when they were developed. A word of caution though, I still get the stares and questions (just not as much) because the Marcus Gunn makes my eye move so much which was exaggerated when I got the surgery. Now my lid is more responsive to movement and opens wider when I open my mouth. I do have to put dry eye cream in every night or else my eye tears a bunch and I can't sleep, however this is not a big deal to me. I am still super glad I got it done. I am not a perfectionist though and am realistic as some people with Ptosis seem not to be. My eye will never look perfect, but that's okay with me. It's just so much better then it was I am super happy. Oh, and the procedure I had done was simply called Ptosis repair. I don't know where you live, but Dr. Vidor is the only one I would ever trust and as a father himself, he would be an excellent resource to consult. Call me back if you want to chat more.

I'm so glad to hear you are building your confidence back. Thank you for writing a review. We'd love to see some before and after pics of your eyes (or just after pics- I know you said you avoided pics before!). It is really helpful for the other ptosis sufferers to see what the results will be like.
