Side by Side 3 Weeks

3 Weeks Post Op Today

Today is the best I have felt. I got my drain out a week ago Monday. Then we flew to Dallas for 3 days for work meetings. That was rough, but bearable. Yesterday I ended up without my compression garment all day and was plenty swollen by the end of the day and exhausted. I think I prefer to wear it. My incision has been healing very well - no openings so far (it seems like a lot of people end up with that). I feel pretty good today and so far have even walking somewhat normally. Church on Sunday was interesting because it's still hard to walk normally (and I didn't tell anyone that I had surgery). My doc said that I could cut back on wearing the garment once I was 3 weeks but after my experience yesterday I think it will be around for awhile! I went into surgery weighing 148. I always go up when we go out of town for work because they feed us so much delicious food, but first thing this morning it dipped down into the high 144's!!! I haven't seen that number is over 2 years! In the middle of my kids (after the 3rd) my steady weight was 143. I've been closer to 145-146 ever since having my 5th 2 1/2 years ago. Wen I was married though I was 130. I have no desire to be that skinny again, but I do want to be healthy and have muscular arms and legs. And I have learned that sugar consumption (while I LOVE it) makes me grumpy with my kids. Another note - the tightness in my belly has been annoying. The numbness creeps me out. But not having a huge ouch in front - awesome!!! I love it, and my bigger boobs!

10 day post-op appointment

Had my 10 day post-op appointment today. Could have gotten my drain out today because during the middle of this week my output was less than 25 CC's in 24 hours, but then I realized my drain tube had been kind of kinked under my compression garment. I unkinked it and then yesterday in 12 hours I put out 30 CC's and did another 20 in the next 12 hours. I'd rather keep the drain in for a few more days then have problems from taking it out too soon! So Monday it hopefully will be removed! I've been feeling ok overall, only taking 1 pain pill per day when needed. I have taken Benadryl at night to help with the itching - doc says the itching is a good sign of no infection. Initially I was super concerned about the no shower rule (until the drains are out) but it hasn't been nearly as bad as I had anticipated. My hubby washes my hair for me and I do everything else at the sink. I have showered off my lower half a couple of times though. My incision tape has started to come off and doc sold me some scar cream to start using. One of my biggest annoyances is not being able to sleep on my sides. It's just way too painful on the incision (my incisions go around my sides pretty far). I am straightening out in bed though and while standing with the garment on. When I try to walk though it's obvious that something is wrong - my standard answer to those who don't know is that I hurt my back (and it sure does hurt from being hunched!). Sometimes I feel exhausted, and I take a morning nap every day (especially if I've had to leave the house for the doc or a meeting). Falling asleep in the evening isn't my favorite (I'm still sleeping the recliner because I feel like my body will try to turn over in bed and then I'll wake up hurting). Funny story - the compression garment is crotchless so you don't have to take it off to pee. The other night I woke up to pee and knew something was 'off' but it took me a few minutes in my sleepy stupor to figure it out - I hadn't pulled down my pajama bottoms! I just sat down and started going haha. Had to throw everything in the wash. Haven't peed my pants since I was a kid! Last note - my weight is almost at where I started. I was 147.5 on surgery day. Shot up to 156 after surgery and yesterday I was 148.7. Getting there! Ideally I hope to settle on the low 140's. I think it is possible that my appetite is somewhat subdued (as happens to some people after TT) and I've been trying to be conscious of that and stop eating once I'm satisfied (instead of finishing whatever is on my plate). My husband says that my face and arms are looking slimmer :)
