I'm a 23-year-old female who long struggled with...
I'm a 23-year-old female who long struggled with self-esteem and confidence issues in regards to my appearance. I always felt that my large, bulbous, and bumpy nose didn't fit with how I should really look. I'd been wanting a rhinoplasty for over 9 years now, but between the costs and not finding the right doctor who understands me, I continued to push the procedure date back. That is, until I found Dr. Mejia.
I immediately emailed Dr.Mejia about my rhinoplasty concerns and what it was that I was looking for. I was scared since this was going to be my first ever cosmetic procedure, but he immediately reassured me. He made sure to be very clear with me about the risks of the procedure and that variations may occur from my ideal nose to my actual nose. He gave me a list of medication/activities I should refrain from 1-month, 2-weeks, and 1-week before my surgery date.
Once again, I was very very nervous to be doing this, my mother and I had been waiting a long time for my perfect nose and it wasn't an easy decision picking a doctor. Anything could happen.
I departed to Colombia from the states and visited the clinic in my first week there. Dr.Mejia's office is in La Clinica Medellin, the best cosmetic clinic in all of Medellin. Celebrities come to this clinic to have their procedures done.
The buildings were beautiful, clean, up-to-date with the latest technology and equipment, and had wonderfully polite staff. It really put me at ease to know I was being seen by one of the best surgeons in Medellin working at this fantastic clinic (because I honestly didn't know his office was at La Clinica Medellin). So if you're concerned about the location, don't be. This is one of the best and most safest areas in all of Medellin, you're in good hands.
Dr. Mejia and I spoke in his office about my expectations and what it was exactly that I wanted done, he even made some suggestions I hadn't considered before that would better exemplify my other facial features. My biggest concerns were my extremely large, bulbous tip, a dorsal hump from a previous accident, and wide/high nostrils. I was worried I was asking for too much but once again, he reassured me that I should be as honest and as open with him about what I want.
I also suffered from palmer hyperhidrosis so Dr.Mejia suggested a couple units of Botox in my hands to help reduce palmar sweating, this procedure takes only a few minutes I believe and he administered the botox in my hands during my rhinoplasty procedure.
Procedure day: My procedure was at 7am ( I think? I was too sleepy to remember). I wait in the pre-op room where I am being given IV medicine, and finally the anesthesia. One minute I'm laughing with the nurses and the next I'm waking up in the post-op room. The surgery was done!! Nose done. Hands done!

Dr.Mejia was absolutely fantastic, I was worried I'd be in a lot of pain but I literally felt nothing (thank God for Anesthesia). After about half an hour in the post-op room, I see Dr. Mejia for a few minutes to recap what I can/cannot do and how to ensure my nose heals properly.
HE DID NOT PACK MY NOSE!!!
He used some sort of 3-D casting on my nose and some tissues underneath my nose to catch the blood. I seriously couldn't be happier. The technology, equipment, and surgical techniques Dr.Mejia were similar but at the same time very different from the common Rhinoplasty procedures I kept seeing in youtube videos.
I used Arnica cream daily to help with my bruising and iced my face daily for hours at a time, 1-week later you could barely tell I just had an open-rhinoplasty procedure. About 8 days later, I returned to Dr.Mejia's office so he could clean up my nose a bite and remove some sticky glue that was left from my cast. My cast fell off by-itself 2 days prior than recommended because my nose got too oily. I cried when I saw my nose.
IT WAS BEAUTIFUL
I could not believe how gorgeous my new nose looked, it completely changed my face, I was a new person. On top of all this, I was still EXTREMELY swollen and it still looked amazing!! I would have been happy with how it looked then and there, but I knew it could only get better from this day on.
Overall, Dr.Mejia was fantastic, I trust him 110% and will now only go to him for any cosmetic procedures I may want to have in the future. My nose has changed my self-esteem so much, I feel so much more comfortable talking with people and especially handsome men of my age.
The botox treatment in my hands has helped a little bit, but not a considerable difference. I believe my hyperhidrosis is too severe and may require surgery, but I expected this to occur. The ineffectiveness of the botox is not in any part related to Dr.Mejia's skill, my hyperhidrosis is too severe for regular botox treatments so I just want to be clear on that part. Darn you sweaty hands!
