I first had the lap band in 2010 only lost 40lbs. This was not the tool for me. Had revision because I have failed with diets, fasting, cleansings, and exercise alone. I finally peaked to 278lbs and was starting to have back pain, hip pain, couldn't fit my clothes and feeling very un-pretty. (I am 5'4") In 2013 I went back to True Result who handled my Lap-Band, Dr. John Marsden surgeon. I wanted to have a revision. They referred me to see Dr. Marsden who was not interested in my interest to have a revision Sleeve. He sent me to True Weigh Loss Center in Plano, TX. I paid $600 out of pocket to received a strict diet plan, B-12 shots, and dietary counseling. It was pretty successful, I lost 25 lbs on the three month program. Unfortunately, to continue another six months meant another $900. Of course this would have been cheaper than the surgery but I was starting to get bored of the bland diet with limited choices. So I tried to do a modified version on my of the diet and continued to exercise but my cravings returned and I began to over eat. I went back and had lap bad filled (tightened). That was the worse mistake, feeling, and experience. I couldn't get any meat or bean protein down and eating and fresh fruits and vegetables was a nightmare. I had acid reflux, vomit, dumping, just miserable. To add to that I ate easy foods that would go past the band causing me to pick up more weight than I lost. In January of 2014 I had a consultation with Dr. Kim and I felt I found my answer. In addition, I was required to attend classes that were not offered to me by True Results and I felt empowered to move forward with this journey. With the patient education manual Dr. Kim provided and the courses on pre and post operation I know I will be successful with the sleeve as tool.

I had several pre-op appointments, had fluid removed from my band, an EGD, blood work done, and placed on two week liquid diet clear liquids,SF jello, SF popsicles, and protein shake of BariEssentials. My surgery was scheduled and I got an insurance scare that was quickly resolved. My surgery was on Tuesday 04/28/15, removal of lap-band and sleeve performed. I had no gas pains at all, only sorness from incisions, 7 total. I went home after 4-6 hours in recovery. Two days later I had a fever of 102, went to Baylor Trophy Club ER, and was diagnosed the pneumonia in my left lung (mild case) and UTI. I was admitted overnight with IV antibiotics and IV fluids, could not have anything to drink (mouth was so dry) due to concern of leak. Dr. Davis came checked on me the following morning. Thankfully my stomach was fine, no leaks! I went home on seven days of antibiotics. This surgery was an ease in regards to pain, I only had issues with dry mouth. I had my follow up on 05/08/15 to remove staples and my weight was down 11 lbs from pre-op weight of 278.
