My last surgical procedure, done shortly before I turned 35, was a medial thigh lift which rid my upper legs of extra skin and tightened them up from my knees to the top of my thighs. Once again, excess skin was my problem and resulted from years of weight loss and gain. Unfortunately, this is something that exercise cannot cure and I have always been self-conscious of how flabby they were. But the day surgery was done without complication and I was up and about within less than 12 hours of the surgery. After observing the appropriate recovery time and following my doctor's restrictions, I was back to exercising and my regular daily routines without any issues. Once I began exercising again, I could really see the difference the thigh lift had made. Finally all that exercise was showing results in the form of more definition and visible muscle. Now, almost a year later, I'm still glad that I did it and would do it again. I'm very happy with the surgery itself and also what it has allowed me to achieve with regular, targeted exercise and a well-balanced diet. Highly recommend for anyone who is self-conscious of extra skin on the upper legs after body weight changes. It's probably not the most well-known of popular cosmetic procedures but it's a great way to feel firmer and tighter down there.

Very happy to read your story. I'm having a medial lateral thigh lift Aug 28. Very nervous about it. How did you cope with anxiety before your surgery?

Well, I didn't have much anxiety because it was my 3rd procedure. But I can tell you that when I had my 1st (tummy tuck ) I was indeed anxious. But I kept in mind that the surgery would be over quickly and that my doctor is experienced and does this on a regular basis. And I think the build up to the operation is worse than when you actually arrive at the hospital. I started to calm down knowing that the staff would care for me well, that they are skilled professionals and that complications are rare. Get a good night's sleep, eat well and hydrate yourself the night before. And try to focus on the outcome you are looking for versus the surgery itself, which, compared to the results, is such a stitch in time. Good luck, friend. Hope you recover quickly. I'm sure you'll be very happy!

Thank you. I will take your advice to heart. I constantly imagine what they will look like after surgery. I think that is where my anxiety is coming from. All those what if questions. I'm just worried if my legs went south after weight loss what will the rest of my body do.

I can sympathize with these emotions and its certainly easy to feel overwhelmed. But best advice here is to focus on the surgery ahead. it takes a lot of guts to undergo an elective procedure but there is also the joy and confidence that comes with doing this. I know its easier said than done but try not to get too far ahead of yourself and get through the procedure and the healing....which I think you will find to be surprisingly easier than what you may imagine. You may find its worth surgery and you may not. But in either case, as I told myself before my surgeries, be they your thighs or breasts, they can only improve from surgery.

Thank you for the advice. I woke up this morning thinking I'm going to be rid of these ugly thighs. Now if I can just keep remembering this ill do fine. Have appt today with my dr and I'm hoping he can calm some of my fears.

My dr said he is only going to do the extended medial. Did your medial lift include going down the leg to the knee? If so did it tighten most of the loose saggy skin on the front of thighs? I have no fat in my thighs he said but I have a lot of skin.

I believe it began at the knees. And yes it did tighten the front of my thighs. I think you will notice, especially when you return to exercising, that you can feel more muscle and definition. The surgery stands on its own but I think it's regular exercise that really brings out the best results post-surgery.
