Hi all, in February I finally took the plunge and traveled to Istanbul Turkey from Northern California to get my FUE hair transplant procedure done with Clinicana. I decided to go abroad because the prices for treatment in my area are around $20,000 which I can't afford right now. I also chose to go with Clinicana in Turkey after reading several positive reviews on here and seeing the results of people with my kind of hair type which is typical of East Africa (soft and curly).
I came into the clinic a Norwood 6/7 with extensive balding in the front and crown area, I was lucky enough to receive 3,300 grafts which would give me decent coverage on the frontal part of my head. I plan to follow up with an FUE in my crown area next year.
In summary, my experience of the clinic was really excellent. I stayed a longer 4 days in Istanbul and chose the package to stay at Naz City hotel. My procedure lasted around 8 hours and took place early in the morning around 6 am. During the procedure the local anesthetic injections were not more painful than seeing the dentist, but I strongly advise you to get as many as possible since the techs can miss a few spots and the pain was excruciating. After the graft harvesting the Dr drew my hairline which I still feel is a tad bit high but i'm positive when it all grows out it won't look so bad. After the treatment I spent the night sleeping upright being very protective of my shiny new grafts.
A couple days later bandages were removed and I was on my way back to the US with bag full of meds and instructions on how to take them. The swelling on the plane was pretty bad also but it eventually dissipated with time.
So far I'm currently at month 1 and half so i'm well into the shedding ugly duckling phase. Little hairs are growing/elongating so it's just a waiting game now. I'll be posting my progress pics periodically. Hopefully the new hairs will grow in soon!
