I have wanted to have a tummy tuck since 2006. I am scheduled March 20th and after reading these stories I am worried... I do not want to take pain meds, and I will need to return to work rather quickly after my surgery. Half of the stories on here sound like people have been off of work for months, and still continue to need pain meds... Are there any positive stories??

Oh there are lots of positive stories!!   This is a big procedure and recovery does take time and patience.  Each person is different and heals at their own pace.

Go into this telling yourself that it's wort it, pain and swelling are all temporary, and that you will have a beautiful new tummy.

Please do not be afraid to take the pain meds the first week.  You need to be comfortable in order to heal properly.  Your body will tell you if, when and how many you need.   So basically if you can lay low for the first two weeks post op you will be better off.

What stories have you read? That's strange because most that I've read are pretty much the opposite... And always keep in mind everyone has different pain tolerance. Good luck on your journey...

I'm sorry, I was not meaning the stories were "negative". I was just looking to see how many were back-up and working with-in weeks, not months, of their procedure. Some people even have said they couldn't drive for 3-4 weeks. I am hoping they had more procedure than I have scheduled... Which would explain why their recovery might be longer. I am excited, and scared, and thrilled! I lost over 100lb back in 2005-2006 by diet and exercize. I have wanted this for so long, and now it was just the fear that it was unobtainable. I am scheduled for March 20th, so I WILL reach my goal!! :) Thanks for the encouragement!

Just reading the stories on this website is not enough. After personally communicating with other women I am feeling more and more confident that everything will be okay.

I realized today that I was totally unprepared for my initial visit. I should have had more questions ready so I had the answers I was seeking. My advice to everyone will be to research PRIOR to scheduling your first visit!!

Pre-op was today, Surgery is scheduled for March 20th. The countdown has begun! I added some before pictures today. Close-up's of my jiggly belly sure do make me want to have this procedure!

Here is a little more history on why I really want this procedure. I had two children early in my twenties, which of course stretched out my body. But I have always been a big person. I am 5'9" and at my heaviest I was 275, at my best, 135. I began losing weight in 2004 when my youngest daughter turned two, and I had just recently gotten divorced. I couldn't keep-up with my girls and it was time to make myself healthy and fit. I lost 100lbs in the first year. I leveled out around 150, and stayed there for years. I remarried a few years later and was at my lowest of 135 on my wedding day. It was GREAT! The only problem was I spent more on the garments I wore under my dress than on my actual wedding dress. This floppy belly would not budge. So, after a few years, and some extremely stressfull life events, I decided it was time to shed some pounds and get back in shape. I worked hard again, and hit the same wall. I have realized I keep losing this weight, reaching my goal, then failing horribly when I see what is looking back at me in the mirror.

In clothes, I look great! I look tall, long and lean. Once I shed those clothes it all falls apart. I am a confident outgoing woman, and I cannot stand that I am so insecure of what is hiding under my clothes.

So it is time to change this pattern. Good bye belly - hello new me!

Hi CleOH_ my surgery date is on 3/19 & I absolutely know what you mean. Although I have seen reviews that have had complications, overall everyone says that it's worth it at the end. I think that the best way to see it is with an open mind set because unfortunately side effects or complications can vary from person to person. I have to work from home the second week, but I'm trying my best to remain positive and getting mentally prepared which I think it's the most important thing. Best of luck and don't over worry_ just listen to your doctors advice and follow his instructions. :)

I had a full TT and I only took pain meds for 4days I never really had any major pain I was off work for about 11 days. This is a long process but do able you will love your results. What type of work do you do?

I'm an insurance agent, an manage the office as well. It's pretty simple, and I can log-on from home for the majority of stuff that needs done. I will have to go into the office within the first week, but I'm free to leave when it's necessary. It's so nice to know others have done it, and I'm sure I'll get there too!!

I only took pain meds for a few days, not a single complication. I was back to work in 1.5 weeks (office job). Best of luck and just positive thoughts.

I just had my TT, MR and LIPO last Wednesday and feel free to read my review, I have gone into great detail. It may take a little while to read it all but may be worth it for you. I hope it helps ease your mind. :) I know what you mean about pain meds. I HATE taking them too so I have quartered all of my percocets and only take a quarter to 2 quarters at a time and today I am 5 days post op and I only took 3 quarters of a pill today. one at 7am one at 2pm and one at 8pm I may or may not take another one before bed just to help me get a good nights sleep. But I start off taking very little...that way I'm not trying to wean off a lot.

Here is the sad truth: I've actually never even had pain meds. Of course I've done the Tylenol and Advil stuff, but not narcotics. Wisdom teeth and child birth both were complete with just OTC normal stuff. If I need it, I will do it. And I think what you said is really great. I didn't think I could cut those, so now that I know I will just start with the minimum possible, should I need to. My late husband had went through a few horrific spinal operations, and to me, those horrible pills were to blame for a great majority of his issues. I'm not afraid of becoming addicted, I'm just so appalled by how they make people behave. I sincerely appreciate the advice of quartering. It's just not something I would have thought of! Thank you, and your reviews are great! I've been watching your posts and I'm just hoping I look half as great as you when this is all done!!

I don't know how fast you need to get back to work, but if you have a desk job, you should be able to get back fairly quickly. Not in a week, but perhaps two. Don't say no to pain meds, in my opinion,(and I have a high tolerance for pain), you will certainly need them the first four days. Then things start to get much better. You may need them for a few nights after that, but that's okay, you will be sleeping anyway. I haven't heard of anyone being off for months, it may just seem that way. It does take time to recover, but you can certainly function. I'm six weeks post op and can get around, started working out(cardio) last week, I don't work, so that wasn't an issue but I am back to regular house work and have been for a few weeks. Of course I took all the help I could get, why push it? But all in all, do try to give yourself at least two weeks to just rest and concentrate on you. Good luck and I look forward to hearing how you do!

Thank you for the advice, I'll be sure to take things slow, an just do what I can. I have the kind of job that just requires some phone calls and a few hours on the laptop. I can leave whenever I want, and can hole-up in a closed office while I'm there. I've also frozen some casseroles so my daughters will only need to reheat for the week after my surgery. I'm planning, and that calms the nerves! Thank you again!

I had a full tummy tuck, lipo and breast lift with implants and went back to work 2 weeks later. I only took pain meds for a few days as I don't like the way they make me feel. I had a pain pump in my tummy tuck incision which I highly recommend. I think that's why I didn't have to take pain meds for too long. I didn't get my drains out until a few days before I returned to work. I think it may have been harder to go back if I still had the drains in. I felt good enough to return to work after 2 weeks. The only bad part was sitting upright all day wearing the binders. I was used to laying back in my recliner for 2 weeks which is much more comfortable when wearing those awful binders! I really never did feel much pain, even with all I had done. I would call it discomfort more than anything. I'm sure you will do fine! In a couple weeks I will be one year post-op and I have never regretted doing this for one minute! Good luck!

Wow! That is so encouraging, thank you! I plan on just taking it one day at a time. I've set my goals high for returning to work, but have a realistic understanding that it may take longer. I guess we'll see in the coming days...
