Although it is indicated that the procedure performed was solely a Revisions Rhinoplasty, this review will also discuss additional procedures Dr Guyuron has performed which have dramatically changed my life for the better.
Being a New Yorker, theres a general (and arrogant) consensus that a turn in any direction on Park Avenue would yield a world class plastic surgeon; unfortunately I learned the hard way that is not always the case. I felt I had done my due diligence with respect to research: checking malpractice records, board certifications, and education while finally settling on a surgeon that did not seem like a salesman.
I didn't come to my Park Avenue doctor with what i deemed to be a difficult or deformed nose, just one that needed to be straightened; so any worries on my part were virtually non-existant. Little did I know that rhinoplasties are by far the most complex and delicate of all plastic surgery procedures, and to truly get a quality result you need to go to a master, one who specializes in this area and has performed the operation countless times over the years. I soon learned this fact when my New York surgeon left me with a gaping hole in my nasal septum (a septal peforation) and collapsed cartilage on the left side wall of my nose...a complete nightmare. To make matters worse, a separate facial procedure he performed on a different area left me with debilitating nerve damage, pain, and migraine headaches.
Try finding a plastic surgeon who has the technical ability to repair a septal perforation; there might be 5 of them in the entire United States. I made countless phone calls to numerous plastic surgeons across the country from New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Texas, etc only to be told that they did not have the ability to help me. The 1 or 2 who seemed receptive to attempting the repair wanted to only do so with "Aloderm", which in my opinion is only putting a "band-aid" over the problem so to speak. I was extremely discouraged and completely miserable at this point, but I happened to stumble upon an article by Dr. Bahman Guyuron detailing his patented technique for repairing a septal perforation with a persons own cartilage. I suddenly had hope.
When you read about Dr. Guyuron you'll come across hundreds of his articles published in medical journals, many of which detail innovative and original techniques he's developed over the years ranging from plastic surgery to even neurological ailments like migraines and facial pain. In fact, you can look on Amazon.com and see that he's even published an entire textbook on Rhinoplasty. His expertise in this area is world renowned and you'll notice that he's frequently asked to speak to other plastic surgeons regarding his techniques. I believe he also helped create "The Rhinoplasty Society", a plastic surgery membership organization that groups the top nasal surgeons in the world together with the goal of teaching, exchanging ideas and perfecting the outcome of rhinoplasty for patients. When you see the long list of credentials, it's easy to feel comfortable knowing Dr. Guyuron will be operating on you.
Using techniques he personally developed, Dr. Guyuron was able to repair the damage my previous surgeon caused me, damage that many other doctors felt I would have to live with for the rest of my life. My septum was delicately repaired with my own cartilage, something that only a handful of surgeons in the entire world have the talent to do. He even fixed the cosmetic aspects of my nose as well, and did so using the guidelines of precise measurements he personally sketches out on a life size photograph of your face beforehand to ensure your new nose is in perfect mathematical proportion with your other facial features.
However, perhaps the most life changing feat he accomplished with me was eliminating the facial pain I was suffering from. Up to that point I was dealing with debilitating migraines, facial pain, and nearly constant spasming of muscles on my face due to the damage caused by my previous plastic surgeon in new york. My entire life was affected; the pain made it nearly impossible to fully concentrate when having a conversation with others or reading a book, my work was affected as was my social life and my only semi-escape was sleep. Through Dr. Guyuron's innovative techniques and original research in the area of migraines and facial pain he was able to develop a plan with me that surgically targeted the areas which were affected by my nerve damage and one by one brought my relief. There were no side effects, his suturing was perfect and left no visible scars, and today I am here with my life back thanks to Dr. Guyuron.
When you meet him you'll see that he's a person who takes pride in his work and really enjoys what he does. He has a passion for knowledge and works hard to be an innovator in his field. He has an eye for detail and really strives to make every operation as perfect as possible blending artistry and science. He will listen carefully to your concerns and is always willing to think "out of the box", a trait which helped him and I come up with a plan that cured my facial pain. You're in good hands with Dr. Guyuron as your surgeon.
