I have surgery scheduled for March 20th with Dr. Steven Goldman in Cleveland Ohio. I have chose him because he is double certified ENT and plastic surgeon. I was impessed his honesty and the time he spent answering my questions.I have a deviated septum and a bump that I am having removed. I was in a car accident in high school which caused injury to my nose. As I have become older my septum has become more deviated. With surgery 9 days away I am very nervous. I am a runner and very healthy. I never get sick. I woke up yesterday with a cold. I also now have a an infection due to an ingrown toenail. I am assuming stress is the cause. I have an appointment with my doctor Tuesday to start an antibiotic to be safe. I am calling Dr Goldman on Monday. I am wondering if I will need to reschedule my surgery. I have done some research and some Doctors do surgery even when there iis has an infection. I am also curious as to why not all Doctors do pre-op testing? I have never had pre-op testing for surgery.

Hi there and welcome to RealSelf. You're right, only some doctors do pre-op testing (I never had it either). I'm not sure about operating with the ingrown toenail infection or not. What does your surgeon say?

Please keep us posted. I think you're going to do great!

I am so nervous my surgery is on Tuesday! I contacted my plastic surgeons office and did not need pre-op testing due to my good health. I started an antibiotic last week and I'm free of my cold. The infection in my toe nail is gone thanks to a visit to a foot doctor. I received my pre-op paper work last week. After reading the paper work I am extremely nervous. I am also having eyelid surgery. It's something I have wanted to do for a while. I've decided to do it now since I would be under anesthesia for my rhinoplasty. I am worried about so many things.

The morning I went into surgery I was terrified. I had the best doctor, nurses, and anesthesiologist they quickly made me feel relaxed. They did everything they could to calm me. One of the nurses made a comment that they weren't only employees but also patients. This helped so much. Everyone was so positive and encouraging. Dr. Goldman and his staff are by far the best.
When I came out of anesthesia I had very little pain. I had an hour and a half car ride home and still had little pain. The first night I started to swell, had some pain and a sore throat. The day after surgery The sore throat, pain and swelling continued. The second night my entire face swelled. It is now the third day and it feels like the swelling is going down. I still have some pain and continue on my pain meds.
