A year ago I finally decided that I would invest some money in improving my smile and teeth alignments. I first considered braces, because Invisalign just seemed like a relatively young and less reliable technology. However because I was 23, working and had a lot of travel plans in mind, I hated the idea of having a mouth full of visible metal for 2 years in my early 20s. I started to look into invisalign, and checked almost all the reviews on realself that was close to my condition: moderate crowding, overbite and protruding front tooth. I booked 3 different consultations in Vancouver. The first two were very unpleasant experiences, both two male doctors pressured me to get surgery for my overbite situation though I clearly told them that is not my main concern, I mainly wanted to push back my protruding tooth and have straighter teeth in general. They both quoted me ridiculous prices, even considering it's Vancouver. I was very discouraged after those 2 consultations, they both seemed like they only cared about getting my money, and I was pushed around like a product on a pipeline. I almost gave up this whole idea, because I knew I didn't want to waste my money on a relatively scary jaw surgery. However my last consultation at Clearview Orthodontics was amazing. The staff were genuinely friendly, Dr. Weltman who was at the time available for a consultation at the earliest time for me is great. Instead of making me feel like an ugly unwanted patient, she actually cared about my needs and concerns, and agreed to proceed the Invisalign treatment without any jaw surgery. I went in for that consultation last year around May, and started my treatment in June, I was maybe on a fasttrack? I changed my trays every week instead of every two weeks, and the changes were less drastic/ painful. I work elastics to help with my overbite. A year later, I finished 50/ 53 trays, and is now waiting for my refinement trays, instead of taking the last 3 trays I'm on tray 50 for 4 weeks and then refinements for 3 months, and I'll be done! I'm sooooo satisfied and happy with the results, because its literally what I dreamt and hoped for since I was in middle school. I don't mind the overbite because I think that almost defines who I am haha.
Other things to note:
-I went on a few trips during my treatment, including a long 3 months break in Japan ( got 14 trays before I went), and it was totally fine traveling with it, after the first month I get used to brushing my teeth 5 times a day. It can be annoying if there isn't a washroom near by, but overall It wasn't that much of a hassle.
-Regarding pain...Changing to a new tray wasn't painful to me. I did have mouth cankers a few times due to Invisalign and jetlag/stress/illness, but it's a small price to pay compared to the results.
-Always brought a small makeup bag with my tray case, tooth brush and paste and floss with me.
-ate less snacks, spent less money on drink/snacks. Though when I wanted to I still bought juice and ice-cream on my way home.
-Paid a down payment and did monthly payment for 11 months and then paid off the rest in the last month.
-Friends and family all notice the different, even people who didn't believe it was needed have told me how much better my teeth and smile look now. :)
