Here we go again!

WORTH IT
2 yrs after I was final over & HAPPY with my reduction, I found out I was BRCA 2 positive. My older sister got stage 1 breast cancer & that is how we found out it was in our families genetics. I knew right away that I would have a do the prophylactic (preventive) double mastectomy. I have 3 children & just didn't want to take any risk. So I scheduled it for the next summer as I am a teacher. I decided on DIEP FLAP. This is where they use your stomach tissue to recreate the breast. I had a nice tummy so liked the benefit of losing it plus the naturalness of using my own tissue over implants. This is a tough 8 hr surgery, 5 days in hospital, & 8 week recovery. I knew I would be high risk for splitting as you can see what I went through with my reduction. Long story short...in the 3 weeks after surgery I got an infection at my hip drain sight, & my breast split WAY open in just 5 days (PO days 10-15), then my tummy split open in one section PO. Needless to say, I am very disappointed but not surprised. I'm a TERRIBLE healer! My PS (different one them my reduction as we have moved) wants to do a correction surgery at week 6 to close up breast. I'm hesitant bc I'm still so raw, but I think I'm going to take the risk as I just want them closed. I figure what do I have to lose, but alt to gain if he can close them & keep them closed! So I will take any & all prayers I can get! Surgery scheduled in 2 weeks! I currently have 4 wound being packed wet to dry twice a day. I have a home nurse doing one & my amazing angel friend doing the other. I need 2-3 feet of gauze into my hip & 1-2 feet into my tummy. I have done this myself twice but it's not easy to do. I can't wait for the day that I can be healed & happy!!!

Good luck. Sometimes we just have a hard time healing. I had a small scar revision now I have a keloid that looks much worse. In the end who knows
I'm so sorry. You have been through. I really don't know what you r going through, but hurt for you anyway. Since my breast reduction almost 6 months ago my life has been pure hell. But nothing like you. Poor Sweetie.Hugs!

Here we go again!

My prophylactic double mastectomy is in 3 weeks! I chose the tram flap bc I thought natural tissue will be better then implants! Plus the tummy tuck will be nice once I heal! Hoping this journey goes much better then my first!

Good luck to you. Hope you heal well and quickly. Had bilateral mastectomy with DIEP flap reconstruction 2 years ago next month. Flying back to Boston in 2 weeks for final surgery, nipple reconstruction. Sending good thoughts.
Thank you!!
Praying for you!

Not sure what's next...

I just found out Im positive for the BRCA 2 Gene mutation that jumps your chances of having breast cancer from 12% to 65-86% chance! Not sure what I'll do! Can't imagine having a double mastectomy after all I went through but I'm afraid that is what I will have to do! Ugh!!! :(

Oh my dear. I am praying for you! Peace to you
You poor thing. So much to consider. I've gone through hell also. Fat necrosis in both breasts, an E. coli infection at my right breast T site, 2 month of Wound Care Management, and now, saw a new PS. Will wait another 6 months before talks of revision. But to find after 3 surgeries that you have the BRAC gene is terribly sad. Let us know what you decide.
I'm two weeks post op and was reading all your posts regarding your reductions, revisions and now at the end could hardly believe that you have to go through this last surgery and now all the awful packing and re packing of your wounds. I am so sorry for all you continue to experience. Praying over your continued healing with no more complications. Glad you have good support to help you.
