I have lost 25 pounds in 2 years and worked out consistently the last 1.5 years. I decided to have a tummy tuck because no matter how much I work I still have my flabby belly and stretch marks of course! I am having my surgery 8/13/2015- I am a nervous wreck!! The recovery scares me more than the surgery.

Funny I read this now! Today is your day! Congrats!! I am 44 and a month into recovery. First off, it's not easy like I thought it would be! I had read so much but nothing prepared me for this. The first couple of weeks were very uncomfortable and I was in a fog from the medications. I just now at 4 weeks and 2 days, am remembering some of the events of the first couple of weeks! My silly family had fun making fun of me and videoing! All in good fun though!
I would not have recommended this surgery to anyone the first couple of weeks but now I see so much improvement every day. I've always recovered much more quickly than expected after any procedure but after my tt. It could be because the surgery is so evasive and it could also be because if my age too! Don't get discouraged when you can't run a marathon 4 weeks after surgery...I'm actually registered for a half in December and 2 5ks in September. I can't wait to get back to training!
So, what I'm saying is, take it easy! Heal! Allow yourself to recover! It won't happen over night, but it will happen. Just think about those before and after pictures!!! We are going to look so good.
Good luck today!

Thanks for the information. I normally heal very quickly but was told not to expect that!! The pain meds are def helping along with the pain pump. Now I am just afraid what will happen when I am finished with them!

I was given something for pain and Valium for spasms. I didn't think I would take either but boy was I wrong! The Valium was a life saver. My family tells me now of all the crazy stuff I would do and say when I took it but it gave me a lot of relief. I read that it's very addictive so I only took half a pill at a time and limited them as much as possible.
I don't know what your doctor recommends, but wearing compression helped me so much! My doctor did not recommend it (he didn't recommend against it either) but I read a lot of other women's stories and compression helped them. I didn't start wearing it until the end of my second week but I wish I had worn it sooner! It made a lot of difference. I only bought two pieces so I'm washing often because I was wearing it 24 a day. I'm 4 1/2 week postop now and I still wear it during the day but honestly, I think I would feel more comfortable if I still wore it at night!
Good luck and keep me posted on your progress!

Day of surgery

Went in at 11 am and surgery was at 12pm. I truly cannot say enough good things about Dr McKenna's staff. I was so nervous and they were incredible. The surgery went well. I woke up in pain and they quickly gave me some IV pain meds which helped. They helped me get dressed and in the car. Once I was home, I took an oral Percocet and my pain was down to about a 2 on the scale. I got up several times for the bathroom and walked much better than I thought I would. My hubby has been incredible with helping me out. I slept okay waking up to take pain meds and go to the bathroom. I go back to the doctor today for dressing changes.
