Submental Chin Reduction

For the longest time, I would cringe when I saw my profile view, but I never knew why. It wasn’t until I saw a photograph at my friends wedding of my profile that I decided to analyze it and improve my appearance. My chin is only horizontally long, meaning it’s the right vertical height in the front, but protrudes too far forward when looking from the side. Because this surgery seems much less common than chin implants, it took me a lot of researching to find the right surgeon to do this. I wanted a maxillofacial surgeon, but I also saw the value in a facial plastic surgeon doing the surgery. That’s when I found the best of both worlds- Dr. Barry Eppley has both certifications and completes the most I have seen of chin reductions. I was able to do a virtual consultation, which was convenient because I live about 5 hours away. The surgery is set for January 15th, and I am so excited.

Good luck! I have the exact same chin as you and have also had a hard time with my research since this procedure doesn’t seem to be as common. Can’t wait to see your results! I’ll scheduling my procedure in the next few months. Please keep us updated!!

My chin is also like this and i hate it. I am trying to find a doctor to do mine as I want a rhinoplasty and lip lift and cannot get until I do my chin. Does the doctor you chose do this often? How much is the procedure ?

This doctor is the only one I’m trusting. If you look up “Barry Eppley Chin Reduction Archives”, you will find many examples of chin reductions on other patients. I think his approach is conservative which makes the results so beautiful. Very knowledgeable and experienced with this procedure

Day After Surgery!

7Seashells4me
Yesterday, I had my surgery at 7am. Everything went well. Dr. Eppley took off about 5mm of bone off of my chin and tucked the soft tissue under. He also filled my cleft with some fat to reduce its appearance. I love it so far, but I’m going to wait a few days to post a picture due to the swelling. Recovery has been fine- just the swelling in the chin area and some tightness. Dr. Eppley said to wait about 3 weeks for the swelling to go down to see the final result. Overall, I’m impressed by Dr. Eppley’s knowledge, skill, and bedside manner. I’m so glad I went with him for this surgery.

I'm looking at Dr. Eppley for a similar surgery. I'm looking forward to seeing your results!

Hello, would you mind showing pictures of the after result?
January 23, 2019
I’m also looking at Dr. Eppley for something similar.

Are clefts not usually removed by contouring the chin bone not filling in with fat?
March 16, 2019
Dr. Eppley explained to me that it is more of a soft tissue issue than a bone deformity! So yes it is normally treated with fat injection

Almost 1 week post-op

It will be 1 week after my chin reduction surgery. I’ve experienced some bruising and swelling but the recovery has been great otherwise. I still have the bandage under my chin from the incision. The bruising is slightly noticeable but I’m hoping for the swelling and bruising to improve within the next couple weeks!

This looks awesome!!! Is it still swollen here? How long were you there and did you have to go back to take any stitches out? Did he go through the inside of your mouth ? If not will there be a scar ?
January 22, 2019
Thank you! Yes, it is very swollen. I was told it may take up to 3 weeks for 75% of the swelling to go down. Dr. Eppley took off 5mm of bone from under my chin so that he could deal with the soft tissue. There will be a scar under my chin, but Dr. Eppley kept it as small as possible. The stitches are dissolvable so I will not have to travel back!

Okay awesome, do you mind if I send you some private messages with questions I have ? I haven’t found anyone who I can talk to about this procedure and your chin is super similar to mine!

I don’t mind at all! I understand
