Rough recovery, side issues but ultimately worth it

Getting better

WORTH IT$8,000
My smile is getting closer all the time, and while my lip it still tight and not back to normal, I really think the chin position makes everything worth it now. Leaving this up so others can see it can be a scary and difficult recovery. I read of other recovering much more quickly and smoothly, and while I still have a ways to go, I am so happy with my chin and profile now.

hello, how is your chin doing now? I am about 6 weeks post op and my chin and lower half of my face is so swollen and my smile is weird and im so worried it wont resolve!
I’m one year out now and my lip and smile are totally back to normal! Unfortunately the right side of my jawline still had a significant step off deformity from a gap in the bone and the dent in my soft tissue above it is still there, so I’m going to have to have something done about that :( But if you didn’t have this sort of complication, the swelling and lip stuff should all resolve even if it takes a few months! I think I was around 8 months when it was totally back to normal.
I’m 6 weeks out from genioplasty and I’m telling you it’s been the biggest mistake of my life. My face was amazing and pretty but I saw a couple of pics where I thought my chin was small and decided to get a genioplasty even after everybody around me told me not to. My face now looks long, my smile lines (nasolabial folds when you smile) are so uneven now and I hate the way I look. I wish I could just move on
You’re the only post I’ve seen that mentions a wavy or lumpy looking jawline after Genioplasty! I have that too. I’m baffled because I thought genio would improve my jawline. I so regret this surgery- the recovery has been mentally and emotionally and physically difficult. I keep reading about people who seem to sail through it and love the results. I beat myself up mentally every single day for not doing more extensive research prior to surgery! Is there anything that can be done about the wavy jawline? I was hoping it would fix itself with time.

Slowly improving!

Almost to three months out now and I’d say my smile is about 80% back! My chin itself is still swollen and underneath my chin (the submental area) is still not as tight as I would like, but I do see improvements. Changed from “not worth it” to “not sure” since things are improving, but I could definitely see it being worth it if/when my smile goes back to normal and I can get the indentation fixed. Trying to schedule the fix with my surgeon since that side of my face still looks really old/weird/wavy. I am very happy with the position of the chin bone, though, and were it not for the complications, I would be totally happy with it!

Please let me know if there’s anything to be done with your lumpy, wavy jawline. I have it too. You’re the only other person I’ve come across that has mentioned this potential problem! I’m really struggling with this recovery and trying not to lose hope.

Small improvements

Quick update: my lower lip looks a bit better these last couple of days. Not back to normal but not quite as curled in. It still doesn’t pull down when I smile and still covers my teeth.

My chin is looking a bit less swollen as well, but I still have some swelling/lumpiness/skin laxity underneath my jawline.

Seems like your recovering. Great
Yes, the swelling has come down significantly, but unfortunately my lip is still stuck like in the pictures so I can’t smile :(
