So Happy I Finally Did It - Chin Liposuction San Diego, CA

ORIGINAL POST

Finally did it - my experience with Chin Liposuction (neck and jaw lipo also performed)

I've always had some fullness under my chin but it has become much more prominent in the past few years. I gave birth to my youngest two daughters at age 40 and 43, and even though I've lost most of the baby weight, my double chin looks the same.
It bothers me so much that I don't like having pictures taken of me and avoid the camera, even with my girls. I tried one round of Kybella last year but it wasn't for me (see my previous post).
I finally decided to take the plunge and look into chin liposuction. I did extensive research on the procedure and found a great plastic surgeon. He is double board certified and is president of the local Plastic Surgeon society and a professor of medicine at UCSD. So I felt he was an excellent choice for my procedure. We discussed what I am hoping to achieve and he felt I was an excellent candidate.
I had my procedure on Friday, Feb 17th. I went to surgical center, which is part of a major hospital facility. I arrived at 12:30. The prep for surgery took about 30 minutes. I was more excited than nervous. I went back to the OR a little after 1 PM. I had general anesthesia and don't remember much until shortly after waking up in recovery. I did feel quite a bit of pain in my jaw, which the recovery nurses addressed by giving me pain meds with apple sauce. My head was placed in a surgical compression garment with gauze. After 90 minutes in recovery I was sent home, approximately 3 hours after I arrived.
Last night I had pain which was alleviated by the pain meds. I slept upright so I did not sleep great, but it was tolerable. I had no nausea which I do tend to get after general anesthesia (I took zofran to prevent it).
Today I am feeling much better although still taking the pain meds. I tried to eat and my jaw is quite sore so I'm only able to drink - protein drinks, juice etc. I did take the compression bandage off to take a peek and I do have quite a bit of bruising - purple black bruising at the base of my neck. I tend to bruise easily so I expected some bruising although it looks much worse than it feels. I'll try to post some pictures later today.

I would love to be able to ask you for personal questions, especially since you recently had this done. Is it possible to talk privately on this site?

Day 1 of recovery wasn't too bad. I had some pain which was alleviated by pain meds. The swelling has started and I do have some purple bruising at the base of my neck. It looks worse than it feels. Looking forward to seeing the final results!

Day two picture

I am three days out from the procedure and the pain is minimal now. The swelling is still present and the bruising seems to be moving down my neck. I am able to see the outline of my jawline and I'm very excited to see it become further refined as the swelling goes down. The bruising looks much worse than it feels. I have minimal pain, which was alleviated by tylenol.
