WORTH IT
I had chin liposuction and the entire procedure took under 50 minutes. It likely would have been even faster if I hadn’t been chatting so much.
The only real discomfort was during the local anesthetic injections under the chin and down the neck. I’d rate it about a 3 to 4 out of 10. It’s more uncomfortable because of how close it is to your face. I actually appreciated that my face and eyes were gently covered, which was calming and helped me relax.
After about 10 to 15 minutes for the anesthetic to fully kick in, I felt no pain at all. I didn’t feel the incision. You do feel pressure, pushing, and pulling, especially along the jawline toward the ears and around the throat. Those areas were more sensitive, but still very manageable. You’re aware of what’s happening, so this part really comes down to trusting your surgeon.
Once finished, they placed a head wrap on me. I stood up, felt completely fine, and was ready to go.
Dr. Kreidstein offered to prescribe pain medication, but based on my past experiences with more complex surgeries, I asked for an honest assessment of the pain. He said most patients rate it around a 2 to 3 out of 10, so I chose to manage it with Advil or Tylenol. He also reassured me that he was available to prescribe something stronger if needed.
I took Advil preemptively around noon after my 10 a.m. procedure. By early evening, as the local anesthetic wore off, I felt a temporary increase in discomfort and took another Advil along with Tylenol. That was the peak of the pain and likely due to waiting too long between doses earlier on.
After that, I stayed on a regular Advil schedule every four hours and felt completely comfortable. My last dose was the following evening.
Swelling started to go down noticeably from day one and continued improving through day three. I did have some expected bruising, but overall recovery has been very manageable. I’m definitely looking forward to having the head wrap removed so I can properly wash my face and hair.
Eating was the hardest part the first two days. Chewing and even opening my mouth felt strained, so I stuck mostly to protein smoothies and lots of water. By day three, chewing was already getting easier.
I noticed the swelling on my neck followed the shape of the head wrap, with small raised areas where the garment bunched from bending my neck or sleeping. It seems related to pressure from the wrap rather than anything concerning. I’ve been avoiding looking down when possible and loosening the neck area when needed, and I expect it to resolve as the swelling continues to go down.
1-Week Post-Op Update
I had my one-week follow-up with Dr. Kreidstein and everything is healing beautifully. I’m already seeing noticeable results which I’ve attached in the photo. Because the garment was bunching slightly, he suggested placing a cotton pad across my neck under the garment to create more even pressure, and it has made a big difference in comfort and fit.
I’m genuinely thrilled with the results so far. Completely worth it, and I’m very glad I followed Dr. Kreidstein’s recommendation for this procedure instead of Kybella.
