Goodbye Double Chin
slnixon31October 2, 2019
I have always had a double chin. Regardless of my weight, it has always been there.
Last year I had SmartLipo on my abdomen with Dr. Hollis in Victoria BC and I went back to talk to him about my chin. He is very thorough and went into detail about how he would be doing the procedure and in particular he outlined how important it is to be careful as there is a large nerve that runs through the face and if that is damaged, it causes the mouth to droop. I made my appointment and am super excited for the results.

First full day

Since I had Smart Lipo last year, I knew what to expect. Relatively minimal pain, a lot of bruising. So I am well stocked with arnica (oral and topical gel) plus bromelane tablets. Drinking pineapple juice helps too.
First night of sleep was broken but that was because of the head wrap. It gets uncomfortable but certainly keeps the swelling down.

Just wondering how long will it take for the bruising to go away?

Now a week in and the bruising has faded (except that one dark spot that looks like I was strangled). The rest has faded into a yellow-ish colour. Twice a day I use witch hazel and arnica gel. Plus taking arnica tablets and the bromalane. And even drinking pineapple juice. I had the stitches out today and my doctor was super-happy with the results. He was impressed with how little swelling and bruising. I will post a picture as soon I can.

One week

I went today to get the stitches out and my doctor was really happy with the results. He mentioned that there were hard spots (I had noticed a bit of hardening two days ago) but said that will go away soon. We talked about the bruises and he said that given how much I typically bruise, I was doing very well. The biggest issue is the still the head wrap but he only wanted me to wear it full time for the first 7 days. So now I can wear it only at night if I want. I am wanting the best possible result so going to do the gradual lessening. So for the next few days I will go from 24 hours (minus showers) to about 18. Then will go for 12 hours so basically while sleeping and occasionally around the house. I plan to do that for a week or two. Finally I will do just at night. So all in all, I should be wearing it for a month. Hope my hair will forgive me. It tends to pull after a while. And as a side note when I look in the mirror, my first thought is that I look like an extra in Handmaid's Tale ;)

Looks incredible so far! Please keep us updated. Dr. Hollis is my go-to expert as well and I’m strongly considering the same procedure. Do you mind me asking what the cost was?

Dr. Hollis is fantastic. So glad we have him here in Victoria. The cost was about $6000.00 (nearly half of that is the fees for the surgery clinic). Because this procedure is done under general anesthesia the cost is higher than other clinics where they use a local.
Thanks for sharing your experience - good luck with the surgery!
