I initially went to see Dr. Z about a different procedure. He actually talked me out of it and said he didn't really think it was necessary (which I thought was pretty awesome!). But since I was telling him I felt I was really starting to show my age, he suggested neck liposuction to define my jawline for a more youthful look. When he showed me the potential "after" on 3D imaging I was shocked! My double chin had always annoyed me, but I figured I just needed to lose more weight. But he said that since I am at a healthy weight right now, it's more likely a genetics issue and one that can be fairly easily corrected.

Had my surgery 2 days ago. I was anxious to begin with and the doctor was running behind, so after nearly two hours I was really aggravated.
Fortunately, the nurse that finally admitted me was so kind that I was able to relax, and the procedure went fine. I was put under general anesthesia and woke up with the compression garment on. I did have quite a bit of pain, most notably pain when swallowing on my right side. The nurse said this was due to the trauma from the instruments used and she gave me more pain meds. Since I was the last patient of the day, I had two nurses caring for me in recovery and they were absolutely wonderful.
I started to get really sore at home and took the Oxycodone they gave me to take the edge off.
The day after surgery I was pretty sore in my neck area, and it hurt to swallow. It's been difficult to eat and chew, because every movement of my jaw hurts. That's annoying. There is definitely more pain and discomfort than I expected. But it's manageable. The swelling has been minimal.
The compression garment isn't that bad. You actually get used to it. It looks ridiculous though, and I really can't leave the house. Today I will get to remove it long enough to take a shower. I am nervous about seeing my neck for the first time post-surgery! But even with the wrap on, you can already see that my chin has more definition.

So it's 3 days after surgery. I took the compression garment off last night to shower - what a relief! I still have tons of surgical tape on so it was hard to get a sense of the results. Guess I will have to wait for my follow up in a few days.
The swelling is still very minimal, although you can see black bruising peeking out from beneath the surgical tape. Pain is also minimal. It's mostly just mild soreness in my chin and neck, especially on the left side. The worst part at this point is eating. It's hard to open my mouth wide, and chewing is uncomfortable. It strains the left side of my neck and doesn't feel good at all.
Lastly, I noticed my smile is a bit crooked on the left side. Dr. Z said this could happen but that it was due to temporary nerve irritation from the procedure and nothing to worry about. My own research brought me to the same conclusion, though it's still a little unsettling. Although this seems like a simple procedure, it's pretty traumatic to your body and lots of healing has to happen before you're back to normal.
Also, although I have stopped all meds except for the anti inflammatory, I can't believe how TIRED I am! This surgery definitely wore me out. Fell asleep last night at 7:30 and that was after napping during the day.
Getting cabin fever from not leaving the house. Only a few more days to go before I can get the bandages off!
