Implant migrated, got it fixed

WORTH IT
So about 1 month in I started feeling around where the implant was and noticed one side of it was up closer to my lips (as seen in photo). This was making the one side have less of a defined jaw line because it wasn’t sitting along the jaw where it was supposed to be. I contacted my doctor and he brought me in right away to fix it. He did it right in the office under local anesthesia, and I’m gonna be honest it was pretty scary cause even though I was numb I could feel the pressure and hear the scraping and it was not pleasant. I’m soooo glad I was under general anesthesia when I got it done originally! So he had to obviously cut open my scar again which stinks since it was healing so nicely so now it has to start all over, but it was worth it to get the implant back to where it needed to be. Now the stitches are out again and I’m healing nicely! Definitely don’t hesitate to ask your doc, if you notice something isn’t right. You went through all this to have it look perfect and they want that for you as well!

5 weeks post op

Everything is looking and feeling good! Still numb in the same area, but I’m pretty used to it now and it doesn’t really bother me. Hopefully the feeling will come back in the coming months. I massage the scar daily and can tell it’s slowly getting better. You can’t really see it from the front unless I tilt my head up, but about a week after the stitches came out the skin was healed together so there was no open wound and I was able to start putting makeup over it. I definitely notice the biggest difference when I smile my profile is finally what I want it to be!

I'm on day 4 post op and am so swollen still. Your post has really helped me become less down with my recovery. I feel like everyone else recovered in a few days and I felt like Day 3 was my worst for swelling and bruising. :( Can't wait to get my stitches out on Christmas Eve.
I’m glad my post has been helpful! I think day 3 was the worst for me too, but after that I feel like changes happened pretty quickly. It’s hard going through that first week, but I’m sure you will be so happy with your results once you get past it!
I just found this blog. I had same procedure December 21- so I am post day 4. I and still so swollen and really really bruised. Especially on right side (even some numbing). Did you ice to get your swelling down??
Yes I usually tried to ice 3 times a day for the first week or two! Don’t know how much it actually helped but it usually felt good and I like to think that it made the swelling go down faster.
I am still numb on one side - post day 6. Makes me feel like implant is lopsided. Wondering if yours felt like that since you had numbness/ swelling on one side. Also when did u see bruising go away to really go out in public and look pretty normal?
I’m still numb on one side and it’s been 6 weeks. I heard that it can take months for full feeling to come back, but I’ve recently realized that the implant does feel lopsided on the side that is still numb so I need to talk to my surgeon about that. I think it was about day 8 that I felt normal going out in public but I did still have my stitches in at that point so I had to still wear a bandaid over the scar till day 11 so that’s really when I finally felt completely normal.
Hello! What size did your surgeon use? Looks great on you! :). I think I have the similar chin as you but my surgeon said medium is perfect for me but I feel it’s too big and it feels hard on the touch and more swollen on one side. Did you have that problem? I’m on post-op day 2 and I’m freaking out :(
Thank you! I believe he used a “large”, but I also think depending on the manufacturer the actual size names vary, like a medium from one maker could be the same as a large from another maker. That’s what I assume anyway since mine really isn’t all that big even though it was a called a large. Mine was more swollen on one side than the other for the first week or so and I think it felt hard too, that’s probably all normal so I wouldn’t worry too much!
Thank you for replying back and sharing your procedure here!

Days 7-11

Pretty much everything is still the same, still numb on the right side, still feel tightness but it gets better each day. On day 8 the final piece of tape over the stitches finally came off! Was weird seeing the stitches but I went on day 11 for my follow up appointment and got them taken out. It hurt a little, but really not as bad as I was expecting. Still a little swollen under the jaw line but everything is looking and feeling pretty good so far! I think most of the changes are done now but I’ll check back in at maybe 3 weeks or so and post a picture update because hopefully all of the swelling will be gone by then!

I'm have a recessed chin too. I've been meaning to ask on here if I need corrective jaw surgery or an implant. By the way...Your smile is gorgeous!
I think it all depends on how recessed it is, I have a friend whose was worse than mine and she had the jaw surgery, but that was definitely a lot harder because she had to have braces for a while and had a more difficult recovery. But I’m sure a doctor can tell you what your best option is, good luck! And thank you!
