Vascular Occlusion with Chin Filler
I have gotten lip fillers twice and was eager to get cheek and chin to help with my profile and volume loss in my cheeks. 1ml in cheeks and 1 in chin. It looked amazing for a minute.
My cheeks went fine, the left side of my chin went fine. But the right side...not so much. I felt immediate pain with first injection into the right side of my chin, like pressure, but it quickly went away. But my injector immediately recognized signs of an occlusion and dissolved the filler. Just one syringe and it seemed to get better.
The next day I still had, as you'll see in the photos, there was a bit of blanching that wasn't resolved. The 3rd day I went back and had the rest of the filler dissolved. 5 syringes to dissolve all the filler. Then day 4 I felt pretty good...but 5 an day 5 I woke up in immense pain, went to urgent care and diagnosed with cellulitis. Pain got even worse and blisters formed, I visited emergency room at a hospital later that same day. I was diagnosed with a staff infection likely from the dissolving. I was treated with a few hours of intravenous antibiotic, prescribed an oral antibiotic for ten days, and also a topical antibiotic. Pain was unbearable, they gave me something for the pain.
I knew the risks, was told of the risks, and had a very experienced, highly trained, and talented injector and it still happened with my first chin injection. Just be aware, and if something seems off, demand it be dissolved.don't wait. Dissolve it all, let it heal then try again. I tried to salvage mine and just dissolved enough to help but I should have just done it all and came back, but I was impatient.
