I'm a 31yo surgical resident, so that means lots...

I'm a 31yo surgical resident, so that means lots of LONG hours working 30 hours shifts on call. I'm really proactive about my skincare and started preventative botox twice yearly at age 28. I'm definitely not trying to stop aging, but I don't mind slowing it down, or making it more graceful.

Anyway, I started noticing the smile lines around my mouth were getting deeper, and taking longer to go away. Usually, they'd be gone by 9-10am (4 hours after waking up), but one week, I woke up and the fine lines stuck around until 5pm.

So I started retinol 0.05%, my dermatologist recommended a higher dose and said that I already had a thicker dermis genetically. Anyway, the first 2-3 weeks were hell. I peeled all over the place, it hurt, and the wrinkles looked worse.

So, I decreased frequency from every other day to every third day and started using an intense night moisturizing cream. It got better. Then, spring happened and it was awful agai (Peeleing), because I wasn't wearing sunscreen (I don't really wear makeup, and wear the retinol during the day). I made a zero sun policy, and the irritation got better.

Now, three months later, I use the retinol as much as my face lets me. I always apply over my water-based moisturizer and always at least 20 min after I've washed my face. I skip a day if it starts feeling 'tight' or starts peeling. On the days I don't use it and every night, I use an intensive moisturizer from Kiehl's. I drink tons of water and exercise.

Three months later and the lines that were present around my mouth ARE GONE. The under eye wrinkles are gone. And, my very few age spots have faded to almost invisible.

This is amazing stuff. I 100% recommend it. Just be patient in getting past the ugly phase. Don't overdo it.
