More information

The day of surgery was very smooth. I was anxious, a little nervous. I was told to be at the surgery site at 11am. I was there by 10:40 and they were ready. The nice staff at The Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery were polite and more than willing to answer any questions. Within five minutes of sitting down, my name was called. I changed into a gown, special socks to prevent blood clots and a chrome shower cap, lol. It's to hold the heat in. Dr. Shifrin then came in, marked me up and that's about it. He asked if I had any further questions or concerns, I had none at all. Again, I was ready. The anesthesiologist came in. Very funny guy. We had a brief conversation about my career and I was moved over from the "pre-op" area to the operating room. I think I was asleep within 2 minutes of being in there.
I woke up about an hour and a half later (not exactly positive). I was groggy but had two nurses in the room just waiting for me to wake up. It was a great feeling looking back. They knew I was out of it and waited to explain all the post-op info until she got there....she was out shopping :)
I was given a pain pill and provided some crackers and juice. The staff at CMIS were adamant that I could stand and take a few steps before they released me. They really do care about your well-being.
I was taken to our minivan in a wheel chair and we headed home. The bumps on the road hurt a little but that was the worst part. When I got home, I laid down for about two hours while the rest of the anesthesia wore off. I was up and walking two hours later. Nothing crazy but it felt good considering I was on my back for several hours.
If this condition has been bothering you, do it! I took a shower today and I can already see a difference, despite the swelling. Things will only get better.

I was recommended to Dr. Shifrin by Dr. Shay Weber...

I was recommended to Dr. Shifrin by Dr. Shay Weber in Murfreesboro, TN. My sister had work done by Dr. Weber so I knew he'd be a great person to ask for referral in Chicago. He was spot on. Dr. Shifrin is very personable and easy to talk to. He knew what I wanted and he went further and recommended I go a step further. I've always had a larger chest since about 7th grade. It drives me nuts. I run, play hockey and eat as best I can considering the easy habits to fall into with a family (eating processed crap, eating what's convenient, etc). It's not good for your body so that certainly didn't help. I decided to finally take care of my chest. During my consultation Dr. Shifrin recommended I do my flanks and abs as he knew that would only make everything better. By no means did I have to go with his recommended further treatments, but why not? He's a board certified plastic surgeon. He's been there, done that. He knows what will be best. I'm one day post op and I already feel better than 24 hours ago if you can believe it. Hardest part is getting down to bed and up. I can deal with it. I highly recommend Dr. Shifrin to not only Chicagoland people, but to anyone in the Midwest. Request a consultation. It will be the only one you'll go to and save you time and headaches.
