Losing More Lashes when Starting Latisse? - Chicago, IL

ORIGINAL POST

I have been using Latisse for two weeks now....

Stella Nicole
$100

I have been using Latisse for two weeks now. I've noticed that I've been losing more lashes than usual. I'm hoping this is because the faster growing cycle is pushing out these week lashes to make room for stronger lashes to emerge. Is that possible. I hope its not just wishful thinking. Please let me know if you've seen this result before. Thanks so much. Stella

Stella, how many lashes would you say you're losing? If it's just several a day, I would say yes, that's fairly common and thought to be (as you say) due to the newer lashes pushing the older ones out of the way. Makes sense, when you remember that Latisse partly works by accelerating lash growth. I would suggest you stop usage for a few days to slow down the lash loss that disturbs you, and then recommence - perhaps every other night OR make sure you are using the tiniest amount if you do it nightly. Use a fine eye/lip liner brush rather than the Latisse applicators (which many discard because they say they are too bulky to use and appear to waste product). So, don't lose heart. Slow down - but consider keeping going! Hope this is of some help to you...

Thank you Nipchick and Aphrodite, Both your messages are encouraging. I have another "odd" question. I, rather than having a dark line along my lash line, have a very, very slight raised lighter colored line along my lashes. I only see it when looking in my magnifying mirror. No pain or burning. Once again, I'm hoping it is because my new incredible lashes are "brewing" under the skin and are going to pop out soon. As you can tell I am so hurting for new lashes. I just turned fifty and I've ruined my natural ones through abuse of makeup, dyeing, perming, using lash-curlers-hot and reguar, fake lashes, etc. I've been much gentler in the last year or so, but the damage was done- or so it seemed until I heard about Latisse. At this point I don't want to bother with all those time consuming, damaging products or procedures but really want good lashes to frame my eyes. With some people mascara isn't a must, but I think my most important cosmetic thing is making my lashes look good. It makes a huge difference on me. The other areas aren't really a huge concern. Lashes make me look younger and much more awake. I'll really give this product a big, long chance before giving up on it. Nipchick, I did switch brushes, am applying less and have noticed a slow down in lash loss (along with total disappearance of the slight redness that was periodically on the whites of my eyes.) Aphrodite, I read on one of your past comments to someone else about latisse growing curly lashes. I would LOVE that! Mine are stick straight and sometimes dangle downward. I hadn't heard of or read that before. I totally get what you're saying about your brows, though. I have the same thing. I'm not going to touch my brows until I know that this works on my lashes, though. At my age, I can't afford to lose any more brow hairs. Thank you both for all the info. Stella

Stella, you're welcome. I'm glad your lashes loss has slowed down and the redness has eased. I think I notice the same thing on my lashline almost of a slight swelling effect but no darkening or redness. I too, think it's probably due to swelling/ripening of the follicles and contents (my long awaited lush lashes!). You're not alone in wanting to cut down on mascara and all the other things. I don't like the feel of mascara (nor the look) and hope to just be able to tint my lashes black every month or so and leave them (apart from maybe some clear conditioning mascara/conditioner - castor oil looks great, provided you're not wearing eyeliner, that is!). Aphrodite is perfectly correct to mention increase in eyelash curl with Latisse/Lumigan (we use Lumigan = same thing but cheaper). I haven't reached that yet, but have read about curly wurly's many times!! Hugs p.s. Hey, I'm not so far from you in age, either! Hope you're pleased eventually (well, hope we all are...). p.p.s. I forgot to add that my brows are really responding well to the Lumigan. I can clearly see the shape emerging that I had in my 20's - and I'm especially thrilled to see those inner corners (which had frozen in the plucked chicken mode for a number of years!) filling in. Just to let you know...

I'm 53 and my once long and beautiful eyelashes are now short and thin. From what I understand, it's mainly because of hormone changes in our bodies, stress and makeup abuse. However, since I don't use makeup that often, I'm certain it's my hormones, at the same time it effects your weight and waist line. Oh yeah and grey hair, also thin hair all over, including arm and legs now growing on my chin yuk!!! the only plus is no menstruation. I started using Latisse 5 weeks ago and seemed to have a lot of shedding the first 3 weeks. Although I saw new growth, I panic and bought Lilash, and used both one in the morning and the other at night. I don't know if it's a coincident but the shedding stopped almost immediately, and I now see a lot of new growth. I just wanted to share, also, Good luck.. JacQ

My bald eyelids (okay, NEARLY bald)have been a disappointment all my life. So I am going into my fourth week with Latisse and waiting to exhale. So far, alas,no difference. I'll keep going until the first $120 bottle is used up. Do y'all think I will see results in week 5 or 6?

I need to know what you mean by bald, Alabamagal. Are we talking literally nearly bald? And have you looked at the Dr Q&A section to see if anyone has posted a similar question?
May 29, 2009
By nearly bald I mean very sparse, very fine and very short. I can see lashes in a strong magnifying mirror, but if you were standing next to me, you could not. Does that explain it? I'll keep applying the Latisse and will post an update in another month. 'Bamagal

Aha, so you do have lashes and therefore active follicles. I think you WILL get a result, because on the Dr Q&A page, one Dr answers a similar query by stating that if the person concerned has NEVER had lashes, from birth, than Latisse probably wouldn't work. Therefore, if you DO have them (even if they are tiny and sparse) I am going to that you WILL get a result AND you'll either get one pretty quickly because your follicles will respond hungrily (!) OR you'll get results, but will take a bit longer than most other people. Either way, I suggest you take it AT LEAST to the 8 week mark, as Latisse site states (in their own Q&A section) that results are to be expected from 8 weeks onwards. I am suprised that some people are talking about seeing results as quick as 2-4 weeks, but still... I'm at 8 weeks now myself, and it's all going along quite slowly. Good luck!

Hi Alabamagal, There's another person on RealSelf who is in a similar situation. Here's a link to her question (one answer so far): Latisse for bald eyelids? From the people I've talked to, I don't know anyone who has noticeable results in week 5-6. But if you have almost no eyelashes, perhaps you'll see results sooner since you're going from "nothing" to "something"? Just a guess.

Nipchick and Aphrodite I hope you are able to view this question. Apparantly, I don't "get" how to communicate on this site. I seem to be getting answers from questions other than mine LOL - its okay, though- the more info the better. In addition I'm having problems finding some of the past comments or links to track people with similar issues. Anyway......... I know the two of you started at least three weeks before me and was wondering if you see any results yet. It's been a little over a month now and I am still consistant with my Latisse use but haven't seen any results yet. The two of you must be getting close to that half-way eight week marker. Anything starting? Please let me know. My fingers are crossed. Thanks so much. Stella
