PO Day 13

Ice ice ice and stay off your feet for long periods of time! It's good to walk around so you don't get stiff, but extended periods of time will cause swelling in all the wrong places! Haha.

Hey! How are things going? Are you doing better after ur last draining?
October 12, 2017
Hey! Yes, everything is going much better! They only drained 40cc the last time and he thinks I'll be good until my 6week check up! My back is feeling better and I'm able to sleep in more positions now. Sleeping is still a little uncomfortable but definitely much more manageable! Today is my 3week mark and I'm so over this binder. I can't wait to take it off. Lol. 3 more weeks to go! My abdomen is sort of itchy because my feeling is coming back, but nothing too bad!

Glad to hear your back is feeling better! Ur so close to being binder free!!! Right after surgery how do they suggest u sleep? On your stomach?
October 13, 2017
There's no way I could've slept on my stomach. I slept on my back the whole time. I think they suggest to sleep however is comfortable, but the only way I could've slept was on my back. It'll take too much effort to move around on your stomach. Plus it'll be really painful the first couple days, so your best bet is to ICE ICE ICE, and just lie on your back. It's uncomfortable, but I think my stomach would've been worse. Even now, I can't fully lie on my stomach yet. The binder is really restricting and adding more pressure to that area doesn't feel too good!

Thanks for the info! I keep forgetting about the ice part...I’ll make sure to ice often. I was reading where others said there binders started to loose shape after awhile...is urs still in good shape?

Day 12 PO
BlondeBombshell26October 5, 2017
I've been back to work for about 4 days now and I wish I would have been able to take two weeks off instead of just one! My job requires me to be on my feet a lot and with the amount of swelling going on it's uncomfortable to say the least. I heard that swelling and hardening in your pubic region is normal, but it completely sucks. It's uncomfortable and the swelling can hurt after awhile. I've read that it take 2-3 weeks to go down so I'm really counting the days at this point.
To back track a little bit, on my 3rd day PO I noticed a fluid pocket on my lower back. When I touched it, I could move the fluid up and down. I googled this and it's called a Seroma and it happens. It's a possible complication of lipo, but not the worst thing in the world. Mostly it just gave me some lower back pain. On my 1 week follow up, the seroma was drained in office by Dr. Shifrin's new partner (Dr.Roske?). He was wonderful! He drained 160cc of fluid. Unfortunately the seroma came back and it'll need to be drained again this upcoming Friday during my 3rd appt f/u.
Other than that all is well. I've noticed more hard spots developing and i've started slightly massaging them while trying to stay off my feet as much as I can. If you can I definitely recommend taking two weeks off work! It'll help with the swelling.

Is dr West no longer there? Was it painful when he did the draining? And did they provide u w a faja yet? Sorry for all the questions...I really appreciate u sharing ur journey. Hope u start feeling better soon.
October 5, 2017
Dr. West is still there! I guess they're just getting so busy they needed another partner. And he's very nice! I'm not sure what a faja is, but they gave me a secondary binder at my one week follow up. So I have the binder I was put in immediately after the surgery and then the more comfortable binder at the one week appt. I had bought a compression garment from a different site, but you really don't need too. The garments that they give you work just fine! And it's no problem! Ask any questions you need to!
October 5, 2017
That’s good...excited that the practice is growing...ok yea I faja is basically a compression garment. Does the binder fit under clothes ok? I’m purposely having my surgery in the winter so I can wear bulkier clothes and sweaters to mask the swelling and compression garments in the hopes that by spring and summer I’ll b good to go! Did the draining of your seroma hurt? Ur so sweet for answering all my questions.
October 5, 2017
Aww, it's no problem! I'm definitely one of those people that love being informed as well and if I had found someone having the same procedure, I would've asked a bunch of questions too! 13 PO will probably be perfect! The binder fits perfectly under clothes! I wear a tank top and then the binder so it doesn't irritate the skin from having it on so long. I just switch my tank tops out and then binder and then whatever t-shirt I want to wear for the day. The only thing that hurt about getting the seroma drained was the numbing shot, after he numbed my lower back I didn't feel anything. But it felt great with the fluid gone so I can't wait to have it taken out again! Hopefully this'll be the last time though!

Yea this site is so helpful. I’m just trying to be as prepared as possible. Good to kno about the binder. It seems relatively easy to put on. Hope ur appointment today went well! Did Dr. Shifrin show u how to massage the hard areas?
October 6, 2017
No, he just said I could start massaging when it's not so tender. The PO meetings with him are very quick, he's in and out very fast. He actually never checked how my lipo went after he did it. Like he never looked at my body areas. He just came in, asked if I had any questions, and said he'd see me at my next follow up. It seems like if you have any questions you might get more answers from his nurses. He just seems really busy. He did drain 30cc of my seroma again today and he said he thought that would be it! So I don't have another check up for 6wks!
October 6, 2017
Thanks for the heads up...now I’ll kno what to expect post op! Did they ever give u a full compression garment or just the binders?
October 6, 2017
Just binders! He said that they need to be worn 4-6weeks 24/7 except for when you shower. And then after that he said it's up to you how much you where them or if you don't at all (:
October 5, 2017
Btw....I’m planning on going back to work around 13 days post op....hopefully that’ll be enough time. I have an office job so I’m thinking I should be ok...lol fingers crossed!
