Just over 3 weeks post-op - finally a little improvement
WORTH IT$2,800
I was at the end of my rope, depressed, certain I had something terribly wrong even though I got a second opinion. My left breast is still very swollen and three times the size of my other, but I am finally noticing minor positive changes. I've been faithfully taking enzymes and drinking anti-inflammatory teas. The bruising has gotten fainter and, while the swelling does not appear to be improved, I am able to move my breast a tiny bit (it was totally solid and stationary). The stabbing pain at night has diminished, as well.
So, even though the improvement is minor, my spirits are vastly improved. I'll post an update with every little improvement (or setback, if necessary).

I'm so glad to hear your spirits have lifted and things are starting to improve. I have been concerned about you...don't be worried about speaking up or getting additional advice from different doctors if something doesn't feel right. Take care friend xoxo
Wow what a scary time for you.... I hope it continues to heal a little everyday.I too have swelling on my right side ( had capsulectomy on that side only) My doc said that it wasn't a haematoma or seroma, and that it would take time...he said 6 -8 weeks. I am 3 weeks post op today and it doesn't really 'look' much different ( its a totally different shape to the left ,which looks normal) but I can now notice a little softening of the right breast each day..I had bad bruising at the bottom and side but nothing like your bruises. I hope that you are feeling much better soon. :)
Hi, thanks for the well wishes :)
I finally look normal in a bra (both breasts nearly the same size). My left breast is still hard, but the bruises are nearly gone. I experience stabbing pain in both breasts from time to time, but I am healing. I did notice last week that the scar under my left breast appeared red, was slightly painful, and had a strange odor (unpleasant). I used honey, then salt water to clean it, and the odor and pain went away. I keep putting apple cider vinegar on it each night before bed, and it appears fine now. I will post new pictures in another week or so to show the progress - it changes everyday!

Its a difficult time to get through, though I hope , like me, that you are glad you them removed...much more healthy...Slowly slowly we see improvement...I am using strataderm scar therapy gel...it has removed itching from the scars and helps the scar to heal...may help you ? Hope there is no infection in your scar ? Keep in touch and let us know how you are doing, take care :)
ps my doc has said 12 weeks to get back to some semblance of normal.... I am not good with waiting !!!!!

Second Opinion - relief
Thank you for all the responses to my latest update. I followed your advice and met with a friend who is a gynecologist yesterday. He examined my breast and did not seem alarmed. He explained that I probably had minor bleeding after surgery and that, as my breast became more swollen, it cut off the bleeding. He confirmed what my original doctor said, that it would take "a long time" but it will resolve itself eventually. He said that, if my breast becomes hot or very painful, or if I begin running a fever, I must call my doctor and will probably require antibiotics, but I am fine for now.
Apparently, I have a hematoma. They are breeding grounds for infection. They cannot be drained at this point, but will probably dissolve over time. My friend said he has seen hematomas liquify and begin oozing out of a weak spot in the sutures (which is a good thing(!), but could lead to infection). If the hematoma(s) does/do liquify, he said they may be drained at that point if they don't ooze out.
Thanks again, everyone. I'll let you know how my upcoming doctor visit goes.

Goodman48 was the other lady with some challenges as yours. Glad you got another opinion for peace of mind.
thank you :)
So glad you got a second opinion! It was the right thing to do, and now you can put your mind at ease. Be patient, you are on your road to recovery (with a few bumps) which is better than having those toxic bags in your body! I can't wait to be on the other side of the fence. Keep us posted on your progress. Sending you healing hugs.
I'm so glad you got another doctor to take a look. I'd forgotten that you can also just post a question with a pic here in the doctors q&a forum! I hope things look up for you. Thanks for keeping us updated!
Hi friend, I think I would post your photos and concerns/questions to the doctors on this website... they will give you advice on what they think. At least that way you can get several opinions. You got nothing to loose and it won't cost you a thing. Far better to be safe than sorry. It's more important that you listen to your body... Don't just take what a doctor tells you if something doesn't feel right to you. I've proven doctors wrong before when I knew something was wrong and sure enough I was right! I sincerely hope everything is okay and you feel much improvement soon. Take care. Love and blessings...xoxo
Thank you Gailski. It never occurred to me to do that. I'll have to investigate how to do that.
I really appreciate your kind words and concern. I hope my situation can help someone, as you and others on here have helped me.

Aw, you are so sweet and make me smile! :) on my phone it's the upper right corner, beside your notifications and newsfeed is a menu... it will say, find a doctor, ask a doctor, write a review... Just click on ask doctor, you write your question, then details, then post photos. Just like you did on your review. You will get notifications when a doctor answers your question. Let me know how you get along and if you have any questions/help :) xoxo

Nearly 3 weeks post-op - developed complications
Hello. Update on my recovery ... it's been nearly 3 weeks now, and I am worse. Complications with swelling, pain and bruising. I've sent photos to my doctor and he said, due to the measures he had to take to remove all the calcified scar tissue, it's normal. Apparently, it will remain swollen and hard for several weeks and will resolve gradually. But until then, I am struggling.
My left breast is at least 3 times larger than the right breast. The left breast will swell at night and the pressure will build up to the point of pain. I cannot wear a bra on it, so I fold one side down (I must keep the other breast firmly bound). The bruising is better, but new bruising forms daily. I also feel sharp, intermittent pain in both breasts, but more in the swollen breast. I tried ice/hot contrast, then just ice, but all seems to make matters worse. I do not take pain pills.
Has anyone dealt with this? How long until I can expect some improvement? I feel a great deal of concern and, while I trust my doctor (he's very experienced with excellent reviews) I cannot help but worry. I need a bosom buddy ;P
I see my doctor again on Wednesday, but would really appreciate any helpful advice from someone who's gone through a similar struggle. I'll be glad when I can stop wearing scarves to cover my lopsided chest.
Thank you for reading. :)

Dear Terradea,
I'm sorry you are having to deal with this, as if what we are going through isn't bad enough, right?
I, personally, would get a second opinion about this. It is YOUR body and if I had that bruising and swelling still at three weeks post op, I think I'd be very concerned too. If you can perhaps find another plastic surgeon, that might be the best second opinion...someone who understands what was done and possible complications. Do not worry about offending or insulting the first surgeon. Again, YOUR body, YOUR worry, YOUR outcome. More than likely it is nothing and will resolve as he says, but to have peace of mind is worth alot in my book. The first doc does not need to know you got the second opinion, unless the second doc wants to see your records as to what was done. Better safe than sorry. Hang in there girl! Keep us posted. Sending well wishes to you.

I have to agree with boobyprize. I would be concerned and I also suggest seeking a second opinion. If your breast is swelling that badly on a daily basis, I would almost urge you to get to any doctor as soon as possible. There are women on here
Who have had severed capsular contracture and didn't have this type of bruising and swelling with their explants. I don't know, I'm not there with you, I'm not a doctor, and I don't want to freak you out or tell you what to do. If you were my sister, I would take you to a doctor. Much love to you.

I agree, get a second opinion! It looks painful and really not normal. What if your breast gets deformed for life if you wait to long, just because you think you're docter knows best? Please listen to your heart!
Get well VERY soon
Get well VERY soon
Your right one looks normal, the left one looks as you described painful. I will be going through the same as you on Thursday but will have drains, there is another person on here and I will have to look for her, who did not have drains and complications, she had to have fluid removed many times to relieve pressure and help with pain...will reply with her name.

I'm sure the improvement is due to the enzymes I've been taking.
I'll be wearing scarves for another six months, though. I bought inserts for my bra (to make my other breast seem as big as the swollen one) but it looks so unnatural. Doctor says healing will take months.
