Shah Shank Redemption

Shah Shank RedemptionBefore
being treated by Anil R. Shah, MD, I have more or less given up on
plastic surgeons. After all, my first two cosmetic surgeons may as well
have operated with prison shanks based on the outcomes I received from
them. Thank goodness Dr. Shah was able to change my perception of
plastic surgeons, since he has given me the nose and skin I have always
wanted. In my opinion, there is no finer facial plastic surgeon than Dr.
Shah, and I support this statement with the following:1) Dr. Shah can expertly harvest and carve rib cartilage.-If
you are Asian (E or SE), African-American or have simply lost most or
all of your septal cartilage due to past rhinoplasties, then you may
need a surgeon who can harvest rib cartilage if necessary, without
causing iatrogenic pneumothorax (condition where your lung collapses due
to surgeon error). The reason you want to use an autograft (tissue from
your own body) is because it not only makes your nose look and feel
more natural, but it also reduces the possibility that your immune
system would reject the graft like it could with silicone (which, by the
way, could extrude though your skin over time). Also, because Dr. Shah
is skilled in eliminating rib cartilage warping through a specialized
carving technique, even after 4 years, my nose still looks straight. If
he can fix a tough, previously operated on ethnic nose like mine, think
of what he can do with an “easier” nose. 2) He uses various modalities in improving acne scars.-4
years ago, I had several types of acne scars mainly on my left temple
and cheek-- rolling, boxcar and ice pick. Also, I had enlarged pores all
over my nose. There was no way a one trick pony, one modality approach
could fix my skin problems, so Dr. Shah used needling, concentrated acid
and different types of lasers to optimize my results. Today, my skin
looks 80% better and, over time, may even be closer to 95%. I would have
been happy with 50% improvement, so he has well exceeded my
expectations.3) He is so skilled at injecting Botox that he even figured out how to use it beyond wrinkle removal.-You
know how Andy in “Shawshank Redemption” was able to figure out how to
break out of prison using a tiny rock hammer? Well, Dr. Shah was able to
figure out how to use wrinkle smoothening Botox to also prevent acne.
Now, not only does my forehead skin look as smooth as that of a
teenager's, but I also don’t have the associated pimples of a high
school kid.4) He follows up, then follows up again, then follows up again. Did I mention that he follows up?-My
first two plastic surgeons followed up with me perhaps once or twice.
Dr. Shah, on the other hand, has been following up with me for over 4
years now-- and get this, without charging me an additional penny. He
refined my nose 3 or 4 times through alar base reductions and he
continues to apply acid on every little skin flaw I point out to him.
Had be been any other doctor, he might have lost patience with me a very
long time ago, but Dr. Shah continues to treat me to my satisfaction. 5) He is artistic.-Yes,
he teaches other plastic surgeons at the best medical schools, but
intelligence alone is not enough when it comes to making a patient’s
face look beautiful. Dr. Shah is the complete package. He is not only
academically brilliant, but he also seems to know exactly how to make
one look great without making one's features look surgical and without
erasing one’s ethnicity. My face still looks 100% Asian, despite my nose
being 100% better looking. Oh, he also works on fashion models, so that
alone should tell you that Dr. Shah’s eye for beauty is very well
regarded even by already beautiful people.6) He is just a nice guy.-I
used to think I was a special patient of his, but then I read reviews
from others who also experienced the same level of personalized service I
continue to receive from his office. I like his staff very much, since I
think they are very competent and professional, plus they always make
me feel relaxed right before a procedure. I am so happy to have chosen
Dr. Shah for my 3rd and final rhinoplasty and for improving my acne
scars. Wish I could post my before and after images, but then that would
defeat the non-surgical look I wanted. (I don't want anyone to know
I've had work done.) You can view my photos during an office meeting
with Dr. Shah, should you schedule a consultation with him.

Hi, I understand it is a life changing decision, especially since rhinoplasty is very expensive and many can only afford to do it once. I did it 3 times over 21 years using 3 different surgeons-- the last and final time with Dr. Shah. Although I do not send out my photos over the internet, feel free to ask Dr. Shah to show you my pictures should you choose to keep your consultation with him. I sent his office a copy of my RealSelf review so they will know who I am. Good luck and be happy that you'll soon have a beautiful nose.

For those who ask Dr. Shah to show you my pictures during your in office consultation with him, please keep in mind that you may not necessarily like my "after" photos. With that said, I happen to like my new face, which is precisely the point of plastic surgery-- that the patient is happy and ultimately more confident about his or her appearance.

In case you are wondering about the scar on my chest from the rib cartilage harvest, after 4+ years, it is still clearly visible. It's approximately 1.25 inches long and 1.5mm wide, brownish but flat. I continue to keep it covered with a piece of silicone and bandaid. Dr. Shah lasered it several times, but I have accepted that it may never fully disappear. My chest is light, I'd say a Fitzpatrick 3, but for some reason I still got a small scar. I can't feel the defect in that area and since it was strategically placed where my skin naturally creases, it doesn't really bother me. The satisfactory nose job result is well worth the chest scar.

You're welcome. I guess I just want others to know about Dr. Shah, since I totally lucked out by going to him. Four years ago, there wasn't as much info about his practice, so it was sort of a shot in the dark when I chose him for my 3rd rhinoplasty. So glad he turned out to be an exceptional surgeon, since my new nose fits my face and looks very natural. I got my first nose job way before the internet and my second one before Yelp and RealSelf, so I wasn't able to do much research for either. Plus, back then, I thought all US doctors were pretty much equally trained. I now know better. Oh, my 2nd surgeon was an ivy league graduate, so I figured I couldn't go wrong...

Hope he never changes. I worry about that, since some doctors do once they become older (and richer). Right now, Dr. Shah is the man.
