Today, I had my consultation with Dr. Truong and his patient coordinator, Devi. I actually had another consultation with another physician, but have finally made my choice to go with this practice instead. There was such a substantial difference between the staff's demeanor here as opposed to other clinics. From the moment I arrived in the clinic, I felt at ease. Despite me being nervous at the beginning of my consult, both Dr. Truong and Devi did their best to make me feel comfortable.
Initially, I only wanted to go in for my arms...but once I saw his work, I figured I would get my abdominal area done as well. I have been working out for a while now and have been trying to eat healthy; however, my arms especially have been extra stubborn. My next appointment is next Tuesday, which is when they explain more of the procedure, recovery, and compression fitting! As odd as it is, I'm not even that nervous for this procedure...more so excited! =]

Pre-Op Appointment

I had my pre-op appointment today. I went in and saw the doc and the patient coordinator to get pre-op pictures done. They also gave me scripts to fill prior to the procedure. I'm starting to feel nervous now...Do most people come out with a lot of bruising?

I've had SmartLipo done by Dr Truong a couple of times this year---June and October. In all I've had my inner knees, inner thighs, flanks, upper & lower abs, arms, banana rolls, and hip area done. I really like Dr T and Devi a lot as well as Susie and the rest of the staff and all are just super nice and very knowledgeable and I've never felt embarrassed in any way. Dr. T is skilled and knows what he is doing so don't be nervous at all--it is totally unnecessary. I don't think it's a good idea to have too many areas done at once as only so much fat can come out at one time so if you do (like I did the first time) there will be an area that you may feel didn't have enough fat taken out of, in my case my flanks (at waist area) which do not look any different althog=ugh the lower area of the flanks above my butt look great. I think Dr. T is a bit on the cautious side even when he takes out a lot so you may not get the super dramatic results you often see here on RS but on the other hand, you won't run the risk of dimpling and rippling and unevenness or burns and infections. I've never had any rippling or waves or lumps and just smooth, very natural results and never any post complications either. Bruising varies person to person and even area to area. My inner thighs and knees bruised quite a bit and stayed sore and tender for awhile--1 month for bruising and 2 months for soreness but it was nothing that stopped me from doing anything and I didn't have to take any pain pills at all, even the first day. My arms bruised a lot but also faded in a couple weeks if you use bruising ointment of some kind like arnica gel or menthol/camphor ointment. My arms are a bit sore yet and those I had done in early Oct. but it's nothing I can't handle and don't even think about. Everything will go smoothly with Dr. T so don't spend a moment worrying, just think about how great you'll look afterwards.

Day 1 post op

So, i finally did it!!!! Surprisingly, I wasn't that nervous for the procedure, more so excited! It was all done under local anesthesia, but 30 minute prior to they gave me a xanax, valium, more valium, compazine, and 2 norcos.
I'm not in a lot of pain now, more so just discomfort from this stupid compression garment and having to constantly change out the pads. Other than that, no pain! I haven't used any of my pain meds yet...but people say that day 2-3 are usually the worst because that's when the lidocaine wears off. I can't wait until the drainage subsides. Tomorrow, I will wash the compression garment while I shower and hope that by then the drainage has calmed down. The incision sites are soooo tiny and he closed it up with a single suture, so I'm hoping that the scarring will be less. :)
I'll be posting pictures soon!

How are you feeling now? I am 12 days away from my procedure and was curious about how your recovery is going. Best of luck!

Hey Lydl,
I'm sore and it's painful when changing positions, but otherwise I'm feeling great! I was still able to do some light cleaning and cooking at 3 days post op. Are you getting smartlipo done? Recovery is very dependent on the local anesthetic used and the surgeon, as well as your own body's healing process. I'm super excited for you and hope that everything goes well!!! =] Best of luck

Thank you! I'm getting smartlipo done on my outer and inner thighs. I took 3 days off of work so I'm hoping it's enough to go back and not be in a ton of pain! My job doesn't require too much moving so fingers crossed! Thank you so much for sharing your experience!

I went back to work on post op day 4 and I almost cried from how exhausted I was by the end of my shift. I'm a nurse, so I work 12-13 hour shifts. ...I really regretted only taking 1 day off.
The recovery was a little tougher in the first week than I anticipated. hehe but everyone's pain level is different. Best of luck!!!
