I am a 46 year old female with fair skin. I'm 5'4, 116 pds and in decent shape (I exercise regularly but not hard fit) I have been getting fillers for the past 6 years, mainly under the eyes to address the trough area and then a little bit here and there for facial balance. I have gone to two established, highly rated doctors in DC/NOVA during this time (not at the same time of course). The first doctor I initially had great success with but as time went I was having repeated problems with the fillers not being injected deep enough or overfill. He and his staff were more than accommodating with my concerns and immediate follow-ups if I had an issue with vitrase or a little filler done at no cost. I'll also say filler done on lips and vertical lines was always perfect and never overdone. After a break, I was finding it more challenging to get an appointment with this doctor so I opted to give another doctor a shot. Again another great doctor and staff but for whatever reason my face was a challenge and the end-result was that my appearance was really affecting my overall outlook on things. The doctor listened, responded to every single question and email, showing a great deal of compassion but we came to an impasse so it was time to move on. In looking at his work in fillers and other cosmetic procedures he is very talented. Botox to forehead (and I was a really pain about this) was spot on!) I think it simply comes to down one person being better at a particular thing (given a particular set of circumstances) than someones else and perception. So at this point I'm not a happy camper...I had vitrase on one eye and needed more IMHO and the other one still needed attention plus my face is just out of balance... I didn't look right. And somehow in the past 6 months I aged 10 years! My search lead me to Dr. Tina West. Again, she listened to my concerns and discussed what she saw and we came up with a plan....first step being to dissolve filler. Wow...just that made a world of difference. Now I can't say I was loving the eye bags I was now seeing (since my trough area was being dissolved) but by taking some of that down and starting to reduce some of the upper cheek filler my face, in terms of expression and movement looked...well normal. And the cheek groove that has been chased for the past year, much improved! I went back yesterday for filler to balance my lower face and lift my midface. It's perfect and almost no bruising (and I am one who bruises easily). So the next step will be to address the eye troughs....if that goes like everything else so far I'll look like a million dollars!!

You aged 10 years because of the filler dissolving agent. Word needs to go around, so everyone knows how damaging it is! I feel like I should create a website about it. To help people out.

I can't dispute someone's personal experience and as I have certainly seen the post of other folks that saw the dissolving agent have a negative impact you are certainly not alone on this opinion. In my case the aging I was seeing was absolutely not from the vitrase. It was from uneven/unbalanced filler and malar bag edema increasing that dang line running from trough across cheek....my face had way to many hills and valleys. Other areas I was seeing changes I can only cough up to the ravages of time (menopause is a'knockin) as they never see any cosmetic procedures. Now, I will say there were times when I have gotten vitrase the dramatic deflation left the skin looking rough but I would say things plumped back to normal in a week and any fine lines faded as well. Back to creating a website, I think offering a place for folks to go and share this information can be very helpful and comforting. With that said, I do not know what, if any backlash you could expect from manufacturers/doctors (I am thinking from a legal angel). So far it seems like realself supports both the positive and negative experiences folks share here so may be useful for the short-term to continue to communicate here.
