I just thought I would leave a summary of my...

I just thought I would leave a summary of my experience of a breast reduction carried out in East Anglia, UK. I had my op in October, it was rescheduled once, I was meant to have it in early September, but the surgeon had a family emergency. I have always wanted a breast reduction, my boobs ballooned during my teens and even when I was super skinny I always had huge boobs. After children and saving for what seems like a lifetime, this was the year to do it. I found my surgeon through a recommendation by my GP and I'll be honest I had my consultation with him in June and was happy with what he had to say.

I booked in and that was it really. I have a very physical job (one of the reasons getting rid of my boobs became even more important) and knew that I would have to take up to 8 weeks off, but I am self employed and could work it.

The day of surgery came, I was in early and out of theatre by 11 am. It all went well, the surgeon was concerned with my right nipple which looked pretty horrendous, he came back in late that evening (I stayed in because of it) to reassure me, but I felt pretty emotional at the thought I might lose it.

Next day I went home, I didn't take any pain killers once I was home, I didn't need them. My nipple continued to be a concern but at my week check up my surgeon was happy it would be fine. I am not a smoker and am very fit, I think sometimes you can just be unlucky.

So my nipple started to improve, I still had to keep it warm for another week to encourage circulation. Then the next problem started. I noticed on about day 10 a slight leaking from the t incision at the bottom of my right boob. I left it a couple of days (a mistake in hindsight) and then went to see the nurse. She said I was reacting to the glue strips so removed them. She dressed the area and saw me two days later. It was then thought that a stitch was aggravating the area and that was removed. This started a cycle that only ended this week. I unfortunately had wound breakdown in this area which got a lot worse before it got better, but it DID get better. I never worried about it, it was annoying but the nursing care I received was amazing, to the point where my nurse came into the hospital to see me even though she was meant to be off work.

I think to summarise you hope that everything will be textbook, but if things do go wrong you have to stay positive and keep talking to your surgeon/nurse. I am thrilled with my new boobs even though the journey was been a little bumpy. My nipples are not quite the same size, I have more scarring around my right but I think this will sort itself out once the scarring fades. The area on the T incision does have a bigger scar, but again it isn't terrible at all! The worst thing about having delayed healing was not being able to exercise!!
All in all it was definitely worth the ups and the downs
