I had my procedure done just over 3 months ago...
I had my procedure done just over 3 months ago (01/12/2014) by Mr Ross at the BMI Alexandra Hospital, Cheadle.
I had always had protruding ears, which had led to a massive lack of confidence that affected me both personally and professionally. I found it difficult when meeting new people as I felt they saw my ears firstly and me second. As a professional I have to wear my long hair tied up leading to my ears being on show. I used to beg my parents to make them go back as a child so this has been a long-standing issue for me.
Prior to the operation I had two consultations where the purpose of my operation was discussed and also my expectations to determine whether I was considering it for the right reasons and whether the operation would be suitable for my requirements. Mr Ross was very friendly and thorough, and clearly explained any limitations to me so I did not have unreasonable expectations of the options and outcome. At no point did I feel under any pressure from him to have it done and he was very honest and straight-talking about the process.
I was really nervous prior to and during the operation but Mr Ross and his surgical team kept talking to me and reassuring me throughout whilst the radio offered a good distraction. Even during the operation Mr Ross gave me the chance to view the work to ensure I was also happy with the positioning and was a true perfectionist. He is confident in his abilities, which in turn gives you confidence in him.
The aftercare I received was second to none. Mr Ross went above and beyond when I did have a concern, which was very much appreciated. It turned out to be nothing more than my bandages being a little tight!
All the staff I met at the Alexandra Hospital were exceptionally friendly and professional, from making the initial enquiry with is assistant Vicky to being discharged. Emma also deserves a special mention as she looked after me so well in aftercare, with an excellent manner and I barely felt her remove my stitches!
After my dressings were removed I was a little uncertain about the results, but after having protruding ears for 34 years it took a little getting used to seeing them differently. Now though, I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Having the operation has given me so much extra confidence in myself and meeting new people. I cannot wait to get married now and see the wedding photos, which is what I had been dreading for many years before having the procedure done. I cannot recommend Mr Ross and his team more, you will not be disappointed.
EDIT: It has now been almost 18 months since had had the operation. My ears have relaxed slightly since the bandages were removed and look much more natural. I still wish I had had it done years ago, but the key part for me was that it was done before our wedding day. It was only during the evening reception that it occurred to me I hadn’t given them a second thought, even during the official photographs! Previously, it would either have been my waking thought or even kept me awake in the weeks leading up. The results were better than I could have hoped for.
