54 yr old wanting to remove 17 yr old implants. I was self conscience always of my flat chest and now I'm self conscience of my implants. I've gained 30 lbs in the past yr and a half! Not at all happy with the amount of upper pole fullness that seems to have developed I guess due to my weight gain. Have felt very unhealthy for the past few years. Bizarre issues with no concrete answers. I Just wonder if the implants are the culprit.
I spoke to my PS twice but he insisted that I would have to replace the implants in order to look "normal". I WANT THEM OUT! I feel strongly that I will need a lift because of how small I was when I got them, how much my skin has been stretched because of them, and added weight gain. So......I had a consultation with another PS who is going to perform explant and mastopexy. Trying to lose some weight before the purcedure.
This site has been very helpful but I am nervous as all get out. I wasn't this nervous when I got them! Worried about appreance afterwards, infection, healing process, etc. My husband is very supportive and I'm thankful for that.
Any words of encouragement, suggestions, insight would be greatly appreciated.
6 more weeks! Yikes!!!

I don't think you need to share with anyone because your husband sounds extremely supportive. Are you feeling more nervous or excited at this point?

I'm really looking forward to getting them out but nervous about the outcome. Not really sure why. Praying I'll heal properly and have no complications. My Pre-op appt. is on the 1st. Can't wait!!

5 more weeks! Can't wait. So glad for this sight as I'm not telling anyone about my removal.

You could always wait on the lift - my surgeon recommended one and thanks to this site, I declined and I'm so glad i did. I'm very happy with how my breasts look and best of all - how they feel.

I'm looking forward to the "real me";)

I waited on the lift too and I had implants over twice as big (and heavy) as you. Having a lift with removal saves you a second surgery if it's needed or wanted but I think you might be surprised - if you wait you can skip those big scars. Either way I think you'll be happy that you feel 20 years younger. It's true! Mine were making me sicker than I thought. I'll be cheering from you. I used to live just north of you and I travelled regularly to a Dr in MT. Pleasant. Man, do I miss southern cooking and sweet tea - oh and pie from seawee.

I really don't want to have to go for surgery twice so I'm thinking having the lift at the same time will be best for me. How soon after your explant did you start to feel like your old self again? What surgeron did you use?

I live in PA now. I did not have a lift but I did have the capsules removed and they were 700 cc implants so I was in some discomfort for a while. I was down for about 36 hours. After that I shuffled around the house for about two weeks. I ventured out on day 13 to look for some new sports bras. I could never have guessed size before. I continued to be sore until week 5 when I was approved to resume all exercise. I was allowed no impact (weight training and elliptical etc.at week 3. I'll say I recall it being significantly more uncomfortable than any of my augmentations /revisions but not terrible. Worst part doe me was being down. I love my workout time. I'm a stay at home mom and that's my sanity time

Did you have all the ill symptoms? If so, did they go away once you explanted? How long did you start to feel "normal"?

Shoulder pain and neck pain was instant. About wo weeks out is when I noticed I was awake with the sun and no alarm. That's never happened in my adult life - and it's every day. I felt okay to leave the house and ship almost two weeks out - I had discomfort for a good two months. It gets less every day! You have to be easy on yourself. It's a big surgery.

Wow! That's amazing. I hope mine will be much the same. I'm really looking forward to it. The more I read the stories of other women going through this......my date can't get here fast enough. Thank you

You're not the only person that gained weight. I have had my implants 22 years saline under the muscle tissue. I am now 64 years young. Went for my first consultation on Tuesday of this week getting mine out in October I work a seasonal job I'm waiting till I am off for winter. I gained 45 lbs since I had them in. Good luck you will do fine. Ps. I have told all my friends

You'll be fine with no lift. Your nipples are way above your crease. Now you may see extra skin for the first month - maybe two after surgery but my breasts looked like baby elephant legs after - and three months out 95% improvement in extra skin. I'm waiting a year and I bet the rest is gone too. Best decision I ever made.
