Wanting to Remove Part of a New Tattoo Due to Anxiety. Not Sure Which Laser to Use. Help! Centennial, CO

I have been reading people's posts on here for about 2 months now and decided to finally share my story in hopes of getting some questions and concerns answered. I got my first tattoo at the end of December. A good friend who is a very talented tattoo artist did it professionally and I do love the design. However, it ultimately came out much larger than I had originally wanted and it is far more visible than I had envisioned it to be. It is on my right shoulder and wraps a little down my upper arm and close to my collar bone. Its all done in black ink with grey shading. I initially loved it but about a month and a half ago it triggered a massive panic attack and ever since then I feel like it has altered my look too drastically and is just not me. After much contemplation I realized it is the leaves in my tattoo design that bother me so much. The rest of it is a beautiful paisley/mehndi design but there are 5 leaves designed in it that were not what I initially wanted and they tend to stick out and show around the neck line of about 95% of my shirts and tops. This bothers me a lot because I never saw myself as having a tattoo that would be so visible all the time. I love tattoos and always admire other people's ink but I liked the idea of having a tattoo I could show off when I wanted to willingly show it off. I keep going through stages where it makes me anxious and I feel like Id be truly happy with my ink if I could just remove the parts of it that bother me so much. Ive had two consultations so far. One with a qswitch laser and one picosure. Im leaning towards paying double the price for the picosure because im really worried about scarring and also believe i will need less treatments. Ill be paying $300 a session versus $150 for the qswitch.

I want to know for those of you who are having/had laser tattoo removal what is the best time of year to start this journey? Im leaning towards living with it through summer then starting treatments in the fall. That way I can cover it easier while it heals after sessions. Also is using the picosure vs. qswitch for black ink a better option? Obviously Id prefer to pay less per session but I want the best results possible. My last question is for anyone who has previously been on Accutane. I was on Accutane for 5 months and by the time I start laser removal it will be over six months since being off the drug. Im just concerned that any long term changes in my skin could potentially affect laser results. Ive read mixed opinions on this through all my research. Thanks in advanced so much for any help anyone can provide! Id post a tattoo picture but Id like to respect the art since it was done by a friend :)

I can't tell you about the effects of accutane that is something that I know nothing about , I wanted to weigh in on my opinion on picosure for grey and back tattoos. First and most importantly from all the research I have read the target wavelength for a laser removing a black ink and shades thereof is 1064. The picosure doesn't operate at this wavelength , anyone that states otherwise does not fully understand laser removal. The pico works well on greens, blues and purples but is it worth paying double for removing black/ grey? I'm not so sure. A good quality q switch will do the job perfectly well and if treated properly will not result in increased risk of scarring / pigment changes. All the research that backs up the quicker removal time with pico comes either from pico manufacturers or derms that have invested in the equipment - this I believe is something else to bear in mind. As reassurance can I tell you that the colours you have are the easiest to remove so please remember this and try to remain calm , at the end of the day it's only a tattoo, it's not completely changed you or who you are. I understand where you are coming from , trust me I have my own tattoo regret splodged on my back! I myself am holding off on laser removal as I think in the next year or two we are going to see newer and different technologies coming to the forefront of tattoo removal. If you really must go ahead then do your research , there are many excellent and affordable options out there, pico is definitely useful I'm not denying that but the evidence for me doesn't match the cost . Good luck and I hope I've helped X

Do you think that they will let all those new technologies go on the market? I'm thinking of waiting with my removal as well but I'm scared that it's just too good of a business for the clinics to let some cheaper and better technologies take over.. I don't know, I hope I'm wrong :(

I've had that thought to. So much money is being made through laser that I think they may attempt to block it, but I don't know how they could . They could try and dismiss it but surely couldn't stop it reaching the public . I hope not

I know the feeling of wishing your clothes covered your tattoos when they don't!! I highly recommend starting your treatments in the fall. I believe I started mine in the beginning of October. It's the start of sweater season which worked out perfectly. I didn't want everyone to know what I was getting done so I was able to hide that way. Also, there was no risk of sun exposure. I will have my 6th treatment done in June, which I am a little concerned about since I will be limited in what I can wear for the summer this year.

Check out my review. There are plenty of pictures of the success from the picosure each time. I have some that are black that you can compare.
