Drum roll please...... Today marks ONE week until my surgery! I scheduled my septo-rhinoplasty for June 27th way back on January 12th... time has absolutely flown by and I can't believe the big day is only seven days away!
I had my pre-op appointment with Dr Jenifer Henderson this last Friday, June 16th. We sat down together and talked about how my surgery is going to from start to finish. Then, the exciting part, she showed me a computer simulated outcome of what my profile may look like after surgery! At my original consultation (in October) with Dr Henderson, we mainly discussed my nose and what realistic expectations I had for changing it. At that point I had also let her know that I was not a fan of my chin and the way it is shaped. She took note of that but we were zoning in on my nose for this surgery.Back to my pre-op appointment! Dr Henderson showed me the simulated outcome and she brought up the idea of adding a chin implant into my surgery. She said it would improve my profile greatly and that I would appreciate my new nose with a chin that complemented it. I brought up the idea of liposuction to get rid of my double chin, and she said okay! That was that and 11 days before my surgery, we added that addition! My concerns going into this surgery are mainly the anesthesia and the chin implant.I have never been under any type of anesthesia ever. I've never had any dental work other than braces and I've never injured myself so badly that I needed anesthesia. So my first experience with it is going completely under! Feel free to share your experience with general anesthesia. :)My other worry is the chin implant. I've read a handful of stories of ladies getting them and they feel that they look too "boxy" or masculine afterwards. I already have a square jaw so I'm slightly worried that that will be the case for me too. But I have complete faith in my surgeon and I'm sure I'll be just fine.I've posted some before pictures to help give a feel of what my nose and chin look like from a few different angles. Here goes the one week countdown! Thanks for reading & I hope my journey can help someone else, or at least keep a few people entertained.

Surgery Day!
What a crazy day today has been!
My mom and I got to the hospital at 6:20 this morning for my 7:30 surgery. I filled out some paperwork just clarifying what I was having done, and then we were brought back to our little waiting room. They gave me my gown to wear, went over all the medications again, and hooked the IV up. Everyone was so friendly! The nurses all understood how nervous I was and let me decide where I wanted the IV placed (in my hand or upper forearm) and explained everything in detail and made sure I was comfortable. The anesthesiologist gave me something in the IV to calm me down and then suddenly I was in the operating room! I don't even remember saying goodbye to my mom or being wheeled down there, haha!
Once we were in the OR (at 7:31 they announced), they had me lay down on the table and they wrapped me in warm blankets and stuck three cold little pads on my torso. That's all I remember.
"Waking up" from the anesthesia was just like waking up after a long nap... eyelids and confusion. I don't think anyone was expecting me to wake up as soon as I did because my mom wasn't there yet. But within ten minutes, she and my boyfriend were both next to me. The nurse let me wake up fully, gave me some applesauce and water, and removed the IV. We were out of the hospital and back home around noon.
So far the first day has been really rough. I can't breathe through my nose at all, I've got gauze sitting underneath both nostrils with a mask holding it up, and a nice big head wrap thing on lol. My chin and bridge of my nose aren't bothering me at all... knock on wood... but the tip of my nose is so achey and it's probably the worst I've ever felt.
The gauze under my nose is catching all the blood that is constantly pouring out of it and my mom has to change it every 20 minutes. But that's the only thing I have to worry about besides not bumping my face! I get to sit in bed for the next week or so and try to relax.
Overall, I had a pretty good experience with the hospital, the nurses and anesthesiologist, my surgeon, and even the surgery (lol). My nose is so much smaller already and it makes me so excited to see the finished result!

The day after!
The first 24 hours weren't the worst but they definitely were not the best. I took lots of little naps all throughout the day yesterday, but when nighttime came I could only sleep for two hours at a time! My mouth and throat have been so dry from only being able to mouth-breathe and I feel like I can't drink enough water. On top of feeling very dry, my skin is super itchy underneath all the tape on my nose and chin. All I can do is ignore it and power through!
On the plus side, I got to remove the giant fluff ball that was under my chin and neck in the head wrap! It's so much easier to take deep breaths now that I don't have something squished against my neck. AND I got to shower! I still can't wash my hair and washing my face is awkward but it felt amazing to get to clean myself.
Today I had to start cleaning my stitches and inside my nose. I have to use a peroxide mixture and ointment on the stitches and a saline spray up my nose to break up the dried blood and keep it clean up there. My nostrils are two completely different sizes which is scary to look at but I know it's just from the swelling haha.
I feel like I look pretty good for the day after having my nose broken and an implant placed! I was expecting a lot more bruising and swelling, but I'm sure that'll come in the next few days. I'm not in too much pain now which I am very grateful for. And I get to start taking sleeping pills tonight to catch up on some much needed sleep! I can't wait for that, lol.
I know it's only the day after, but I can't help but sneak peeks at myself and how tiny my nose is compared to how it was!! The downfall of that is how much different I already look. I can't make any judgement yet, but I'm very very very very excited for everything to heal and see the finished result!
