I was the typical 16 year old who wanted a tattoo...
I was the typical 16 year old who wanted a tattoo so bad that I trusted an older brother's friend to do a house tattoo. I immediately hated it. For the past five years I've been so embarrassed and self conscious of myself. I've always gone back and forth between whether I wanted to do a cover up or removal, so when I heard about Picosure I made the decision to at least go for a consultation.
The consultation with Dr. Gurney lasted less than ten minutes. He explained the Picosure process, the healing, the pain, and the aftercare. He said for my first treatment he would have the laser power set to a 4 so there is less of a chance of your skin scarring. He told me my treatment would probably takes a total of two minutes or less. He was very clear of the risks of scarring or loss of pigment, though those cases are rare. He reassured me that his goal is to have my tattoo completely removed. I felt confident in the treatment and booked my appointment for the following week. They sent me home with a prescription for numbing cream and said to apply it to my tattoo an hour before my treatment and cover it with saran wrap.
The day of my treatment I was extremely nervous. I applied my numbing cream and it didn't seem like I felt any numbing. The staff was very reassuring that the numbing cream does in fact help. I laid down on the table, eyes covered with goggles and Dr. Gurney told me the machine was warming up. When he started my treatment the pain was WAY less than I had anticipated. I was told it would feel like hot oil popping on your skin, which in a way it did. But it was like very small droplets, almost like someone was poking you with a safety pin over and over again. On a 1-10 scale I would give the pain a 6.
The treatment was over within 2 minutes. In between the laser, an assistant put an ice pack onto my treated area which made it feel much better. After it was finished they put a bandaged on my tattoo and told me I could take it off and shower later. Dr. Gurney said my next treatment he would turn the laser up to a high level for more results.
I felt no soreness at all after the treatment or at all that night. The next day it was tender when i woke up but not near what I was expecting. It was more of an itchy feeling than any pain at all. Each day it seemed my tattoo was fading a little more and more. Dr. Gurney said I could go back for my next treatment in six weeks.
I will most definitely be going back for a second treatment, possibly a third if I need it. I am extremely pleased with my whole Picosure experience, from price to treatment to my results. I will post photos as my tattoo fades. Hopefully with another treatment or two I will be rid of this terrible tattoo to make room for a better one!

Provider Review
Dr. Gurney
I had my treatment at Joie de Vivre Laser and Medical Spa with Dr. Gurney. The entire staff was very friendly and had nothing but reassuring things to say.
