Four Weeks Post-Op
I feel like I'm seeing a little improvement, my right eye is still smaller and the swelling on that side is still present and I do believe it is distorting my appearance. Even my mum and grandma have told me it's getting better which must count for something since they're not the type to lie to make me feel better. The swelling is worse in the mornings and gets better throughout the day. However, I do feel like this has gotten better overall since the last time I checked in. I feel quite emotionally numb at this point since there's not too much I could do, just wait and see how my results evolve. I'm still not happy with my results and am hoping things will relax further. It's a big change that I was just not prepared for.
ORIGINAL POST
I Had an “almond Eye” Procedure and an Endoscopic Mid-face Lift. This is my Experience.
So just over 2 weeks ago, I had an “almond eye” procedure (canthoplasty and eyebrow lift) and an endoscopic mid-face lift in Turkey. I was treated really well by the clinic and the surgeon. But I was totally unprepared for the healing process. I am still very unsure as to what my final results will look like as my eyes are still settling, so I cannot say whether the surgeon did a good job just yet. I will maybe discuss the actual experience of having surgery with this clinic in more detail in an update.
For the first few days after the procedure, the swelling was intense. My face puffed up, my cheeks looked crazy big, and the area around my eyes had puffed up a lot. My eyes were tiny under all the swelling and I was under a lot of discomfort. The pain wasn’t too bad after the first couple days (which I spent at the hospital where the nurses were extremely helpful and also friendly despite the language barrier). Over the first week after surgery the swelling decreased gradually so that I didn’t look like some kind of cartoon character anymore but it was still intense. I couldn’t recognise myself in the mirror and this to me was a distressing experience. Once the plasters around my eyes were removed I noticed that my right eye was much much more upturned than the left and also a lot smaller. I also noted I had more swelling on that side around my eyes and my cheek area than the other and I just hoped that this was a result of that swelling. My face looked very alien, I questioned whether my surgery had been botched. I was reassured that this was just swelling when I contacted the clinic but I still had a lot of fear that this was more permanent.
My family were shocked by my appearance when they saw me at 10 day’s post-op and even they noticed the “botched” looking eye. Honestly I cried a lot, and had a lot of anxiety over week 2 as I really thought I had ruined my appearance with this surgery. However I did notice some improvement with the swelling and my eyes seem to look a lot more symmetric now than they did a week ago.
I am currently 16 days post-op and I still have a considerable amount of swelling in my cheeks and around my left eye, which looks worse in the mornings. My eyes still look very upturned and unnatural, especially when I close my eyes. The incision on my left eyelid has a hard lump underneath it which I think is scar tissue unfortunately. I’ve heard this takes very long to resolve. My eyes look better than they did a week ago though, so that does give me hope that things are going to continue improving. I will keep updating you week by week! (Really longing to write the update where I say “wow my eyes look great! Everything was worth it in the end!” but I really cannot see it yet!)
There’s not a lot of information on people who have had this procedure (canthoplasty), and I’m just hoping to give a transparent and very real account of my experience with it. I will sort through my photos soon too and show you how my face has progressed.

Thanks for sharing. Do you mind telling me which doctor you went to as i am flying out to Turkey tomorrow to have a facelift and canthoplasty done! I hope you will feel better soon. I watched a lot of clips on healing on YouTube by dr joe niamtu, both educational and entertaining. He has a video in which he explains what to expect after surgery and it may help you to see if you recognise some of the things he is explaining, especially aboit the emotional side of things. Take care!!
I suppose you’ve had your surgery by now or will have it soon, if so, good luck! I am finally getting to the stage where I’m starting to feel happy about my results so I will share the name of the doctor- Karaca Basaran with Mayclinik. I will definitely check out the video. Thank you! It was an emotional roller coaster, but it’s coming to an end so I will post an update soon!
I hope it works out for you I myself seek canthoplasty
Thank you!
Thank you so much!
Can you say what surgeon you went to in turkey?
Thank you so much! I'm going through the exact same thing 2 weeks out
