44 year old thinking about Invisalign. Teeth are...

44 year old thinking about Invisalign. Teeth are not that bad but would like to improve my smile. I went in for aesthetics only but found out I had functional corrections as well. Moderate crowding on both upper and lower teeth. Tipped in front teeth encouraging grinding when I sleep. Attrition due to bruxism my X-ray showed changes in both jaw joints. Also, since my itero scan I noticed I'm a teeth clencher, but I never noticed this before. Probably just more aware now.
I'm scheduled in two weeks to go over my clincheck video, find out my exact details with how many trays, attachments etc, and will give the go ahead then. My ortho quote that I decided to go with was 14 months.
I also went to three different orthos for quotes. Pricing was similar, with one being about 10% higher. Time range was different, from 12 months, 14 months and 20 months.
I have been reading so much in here and would like to thank everyone for their reviews and suggestions! Making this decision is much easier when I know what I'm getting in to and committing to, so thank you!! I will keep updating mine after my next appointment.

Good luck and keep reading this website. I've found it very helpful and most informative concerning the pros and cons. It's not all easy sailing but there are lots of tips here which will help you once you get your trays. I'm just about to put in Tray 12 of 16 and am keeping my fingers crossed that will be done then, unless my orthodontist determines otherwise. All the best to you.

Thanks for the comments. I have been reading and researching and this site is so helpful! It gives me an idea of what to expect and what I am getting into! At least that way I can make an informed decision, so thank you to everyone who updates and comments!
So this afternoon I have my next appointment. To go over my clinchek, find out about elasticity, attachments, number of trays and length of treatment. I'll probably make my decision today. I assume I am going ahead with Invisalign but still wondering if traditional braces might be easier or more suited for me than Invisalign. I'll double check with the ortho today during my appointment.

I've just completed a 12 month program. Overall, "at the end of the day", I would do it over again. I've commented on here a couple of times about things to beware of; one, you're paying for the science, not the workmanship so they will likely have some "sharp edges" so be ready and two, the Invisalign retainers after you're all done aren't included in the price (at least weren't on mine) and are about $300-$400 more but you do get four or five sets. I didn't personally use the retainers, as my Dr is pretty progressive and has his own retainer making machine and does it for free. Best wishes......

Appointment Update
dill16November 25, 2015
Well I went to see my clinchek yesterday and liked what I saw. So I committed and have an appointment December 8 to pick up my first round of trays. I never got a copy of my clinchek yet, but it was 27 trays on top, 26 trays for the bottom plus refinement if needed. 13 or 14 attachments but none on my front four teeth, and elastic sometime on my left side. Also, I have to have IPR from 0.1-0.4 on multiple teeth. I am going by memory right now but will confirm if I am off with my details.
Also at today's appointment, my quote went up $500 from my original quote, so I asked why and they dropped it back down stating it was just a clerical error. Hopefully that's all it was.
The ortho and office I chose seem very professional, informative, helpful, friendly and not pushy at all and is an premier Invisalign provider. I hope Invisalign can get close to what my clinchek showed. Thanks!!

I had Invisalign for one year, and still have about 3 months left. It can be annoying to brush your teeth after every time you eat and put them in again, but it's worth it. I love my teeth now, and it's exciting to see how much straighter they get every week. Good luck!

I'm just finishing off my 23 tray treatment, with a short refinement likely. It's not as hard as you may think, and totally worth it. The first couple weeks were a bit claustrophobic in my mouth if that makes sense, but no pain and I got used to the trays. Now I miss them. Your teeth sound like mine. Good luck!!!

Tray 1 Day 3 Invisalign Update

Invisalign update Tray 1 Day 3
Well I am on day 3 of tray 1 so it's time for an update and pic upload.
So far everything seems pretty good. My appointment was on Dec 8 for my fitting and info session. I thought I was getting my first set of trays and not having the attachments put on for a few weeks. Well, as soon as I was in the chair, on went 7 attachments on the top and 6 attachments on the bottom. The tech was very informative bringing me up to speed with what to expect, inserting and removing trays, care and cleaning etc. I was given trays 1-4 of 26 and booked my next appointment in February, 8 weeks away, for a check and to get the next batch of trays. After being fit for my trays, I did an impression for a new mouthguard for hockey. The ortho tech made it to allow for my teeth to move as my treatment progresses.
After reading as many reviews on here as possible, my transition to Invisalign so far seems pretty easy. For about 3 weeks prior, once I knew I was committing, I made extra effort to brush/floss/rinse after anything went into my mouth (I did brush mostly after every "main" meal but not after coffee or snacks). This was just to try to get more used to the regime that was coming. Also, I switched toothpaste to a sensitive brand just to prep for any soreness. (I've never had an issue with sensitive teeth before). I also made up a few travel kits with floss, toothpaste and mouthwash, file, wax etc just to have on hand.
I did have a hard time removing on side of my top and bottom trays at first. The side with more attachments seem to hold much harder. But after a few inserts and removals, seem to get easier or I am just getting the hang of it.
So day one was pretty none eventful, except right before bed, I noticed a slight headache, and my jaws were a bit sore, more of an annoyance than pain, or a dull ache. I did take one Advil and slept fine. Next morning, it was the same slight headache. I did take another Advil the first morning but I assume this headache is probably due to my immediate decrease in coffee consumption more than the Invisalign, or a combination of both. I usually drink 4-5 coffee per day but right back to 1-2. Three days in, I'm only having coffee with 2 meals. I usually eat every 3 hours as well, but noticed I am skipping my mid morning or mid afternoon meal, either because I am not hungry or just don't want to remove trays, clean brush etc. and I do seem to be speed eating/drinking to get my trays back in. I haven't found that the attachments bother me while eating either.
Day 3 uneventful as well, no advil yet and usually feel better once coffee does its job. I did notice one little spot on my tongue a bit sore but nothing like I was expecting. I might have to file one little spot and see if that helps but I don't notice any real sharp edges like I thought. They also fit really well and my speech is the same. No one has noticed them yet at work, gym, hockey or anywhere. So that's good.
Also, the ortho told me just to pop my top trays out while playing hockey and use the mouthguard, but I can actually fit the mouth guard right over my top tray so I leave it in while playing. I am trying to be as diligent as I can with hours worn, cleaning etc to try maximize the benefits of Invisalign.
So with everyone's help and advice on here, so far my transition to Invisalign hasn't been too bad yet. Other than a minor annoyance and a little more diligence on my part towards oral hygiene, it hasn't been as bad as I thought. I'll include my clinchek and some pics of the attachments and trays in.
Thanks everyone!!
Oh, I have read that you can whiten your teeth by just adding the whitening agent to your Invisalign trays before you go to bed. Will this hurt the trays? Also, can you whiten with the attachments on or should I just wait until I am finished with Invisalign and attachments removed, then whiten? I am curious as to everyone's thoughts on this!
Thanks again!!

Haha, aren't hockey dangerous game to get involved in? Anyway enjoy reading your progress! Wish more pictures to come!

I agree with Wayne about enjoying your comments! And would like to hear back from anyone regarding the whitening agent in the trays. I am on tray 15 of 51 and envious of everyone that has fewer trays. I eat 2 meals a day because I want to keep the trays in for 22 hours each day. I line up my food and basically (trying to out this nicely) inhale it because the brushing, flossing, replacing the elastic bands, etc take me 10 minutes alone! I'll keep checking back on your progress so keep up your progress. BTW I have AcceleDent and it seems to be working terrific - might want to check into this!

I asked my orthodontist about bleaching while wearing the trays and he advised me to wait until I was done with the treatment. The areas where the buttons are attached will not bleach, so you could end up with discoloration in those areas. My treatment was much shorter, only 5 months, which made it easier to wait to bleach my teeth. I use my final tray as my bleaching tray. I have only bleached once, and did not find it comfortable...I may have new trays made just for bleaching.
I would be interested to see if you develop any tinnitus while undergoing this treatment.
Best of luck. I'm sure you will be happy with the outcome.

The first three days with tray one was pretty easy, just getting used to the trays, the regiment of flossing brushing etc. On day 4, I filed a few edges after I found a spot that was cutting my lip and my tongue was a bit sore. After the filing, all good. Tongue and cheeks are fine. Seems like tray 1 really is not doing anything now, I can pop them in and out no problem and not really any pressure on my teeth after a 8-9 days. My only thing i notice now is that my lips are slightly chapped. I never have chapped lips and when I go to pop them out, seems like I'm pulling my chap lips apart and it hurts for a split second. I guess if this is my only concern after a week and a half, guess it's going well!
Also I noticed my trays are starting to yellow a bit after 8/9 days. I have been diligent not eating or drinking anything but water, and do floss brush rinse after anything I eat or drink. I do soak in a mixture of water and mouthwash and brush the trays lightly as well. I have not used polident for retainers, or retainer bright or anything other than the mouthwash water mix. Might look into the retainer bright.
My new mouthguard the ortho made me, I can wear with my trays in, which is good so I don't have to remove them! Oh and about hockey being dangerous, it's not too bad and I still have all of my teeth, well except one front tooth that was chipped from a hockey puck lol (before I started wearing a mouthguard)
Looking forward to moving to tray 2 on Tuesday.
