Actually, I may have put the cost incorrectly. To be honest, since it was 4 or 5 years ago, I forgot how much I paid for it. But in order to post, it made me fill in a USD amount.

I had one Fraxel treatment. I can't remember whether it was 2006 or 2007. I got it done at my local medspa by an RN. I've had other services done there, including Botox, Juvederm and laser hair removal. The nurse and other staff there knew what they were doing and I had confidence in their skill.

A numbing gel was applied, IIRC. There was a goopy blue cream applied to my face and then the eye shields. Even with the eyeshields on and my eyes tightly shut, the light was way too bright. I then requested a folded up towel over top of the eyeshields and it was still too bright. Every flash of light was annoying. That was the part I hated most about the procedure, and the reason I never went back for another. (Do not let anyone sell you on a series of treatments, even if it saves some money per treatment. Try it just once and then wait a long while.) Another issue was the pain during the procedure - and that was AFTER the numbing gel? Hmm.

Recovery went smoothly except that the blue stuff didn't want to come off for a few days. The nurse tried to get as much off of my face before I went home, but it was tough even for her. The postop burning, darkening and then peeling happened as anticipated, on schedule and without incident. To be honest, in that year or two, I didn't really notice any change, good or bad.

I went for the treatment in hopes of smoothing my skin's rough texture. My skin hasn't been smooth since I was 8. That's right, 8 (early adolescence means early acne)! I've never been blessed in the looks department. I'm 40 now, but have had rather rough skin all through adulthood and enlarged pores since my late 20s. I never really took such great care of my skin all those years before, but I never spent much time in the sun either. But I'd say about 2-3 years ago, I was looking at my face in a mirror where there was strong daylight coming from the right side and that's when I noticed some real leatheriness. The texture along the sides of my face is leathery and crepey and if I look hard, I see these odd vertical lines that have nothing to do with my facial expressions. It could be due to aging, but I strongly suspect the Fraxel. I wish I could go back in time and just NOT have done it. I'd at least have the money to go get some more fillers or something. These days, I'm diligent about the SPF thing and I've been using some fancy skincare items to try to deal with the existing lumpy, bumpy, orange peel texture that I had from the start PLUS the newer crepey fine lines.

YMMV, but I think it made my skin worse.
