Upper Jaw Sugery Lefort I for Underbite ... Did I Screw Up my Face ? Calgary, AB

ORIGINAL POST

I got Upper Jaw Sugery Lefort I 5mm advancement...

$3,000
I got Upper Jaw Sugery Lefort I 5mm advancement for Underbite and it's been about 3 weeks after the surgery and I'm wondering if a Lefort I was the right choice for me I feel like i ended up looking much less attractive and chimp like. I also do not think the remaining swelling will make much difference between my appearance now and in 6 months. If anyone has gone through this please help... I'm considering a reversal.

I'm still going through the exact same thing 3 years after my upper jaw surgery. I only needed 3 mm but they talked me into taking out 2 canines on the top, closing in the space with braces, and building up the infraorbital area with cadaver matrix. They moved my upper jaw forward 6 mm (WAY TOO MUCH!). Not only that they reduced my palate by 4mm without even telling me! I thought I would come out looking better, not worse. Now my chin is HUGE and I look like a cartoon. I can't even stand taking pictures anymore. Even after all the swelling was gone I still didn't like what I saw. I talked to 2 psychologists that I work with to see if it was body dysmorphia disorder. They told me absolutely not. I had my face changed and I don't like the results which as nothing to do with body dysmorphia disorder. I hate it so much I'm doing research for a reversal. So I feel your pain. Let the swelling go down first though. To get the feeling back use a brillo pad to very lightly rub the areas of numbness. This will regenerate the nerve faster. Also eat chia seeds and spirulina in smoothies. It helps repair the damaged structures. Drinking Aloe Vera juice is also good but the taste is really bitter. I would wait a couple of years before you consider a reversal to let the nerves in your face repair themselves and get as much feeling back as possible. This feeling your having about how you looked better before will not go away, trust me. Let the swelling go down, do your research, and then decide from there. Good luck.
There is quite a difference in your facial structure. Through my eyes and my perspective your face post surgery looks better. There is more definition, more volume. If I were you and made up my mind going for a reversal, I would ask for a partial one. Maybe it was projected more than it should have been. By no means would I consider it a complete failure. Nonetheless, it would be advisable that you wait and be patient until most of the oedema has gone. The area between your alar base and your upper lip is obviously still swollen.
I think you look really lovely post-surgery! I also had LeFort surgery a few months ago, so I know how it feels to have to get used to a slightly new face. You really don't look chimp-like! I prefer your new look to the pre-op one. I wouldn't consider revision or reversal surgery at all if I was you. Just take some time to get used to your new beauty.
You need to give it more time..I had this surgery nearly 3 months ago, lefort I 7mm advancement. I was going through the same thing at first and I looked like a chimp and my nose looked so flat! swelling went down and now I look like a different person. my advice is to wait 6 months at the very least before you consider getting a reversal.
Hey shay wow it's nice to know other people are going through the same thing, it just seems like everyone in the blogs i've seen get great results so quickly after surgery except me ! How long was it before you stopped looking chimp-ish ? and when did your nose stop being so flat ? I feel like where the plates and screws start on my upper jaw, is where there is a huge amount of volume making me look chimp-ish.
around a month or so but the thing is on some days I thought I looked better/worse than others even at 2 months post op. At 3 months post op I definitely look less chubby now than I did at the first month and my nose just looked less flat after a month or so
Don't worry just yet. My swelling took months to go down completely. Before it did, my smile looked unnatural and somewhat chimp-like as well. But you already look really good and not at all chimp-like in your photos! Give it some time, and I'm sure you'll be pleased.
