Haven't been on here in a long time... It took until mid- January (a very long 3 mths) for my boob to finally close over. I was so beyond sick of changing bandages 3 times a day, cleaning it and adding polysporin. I was thrilled when I could actually not be all bandaged up and my life didn't revolve around my boobs 24/7. I even quit taking daily boob pics (so my phone is no longer pornographic...haha). The hardest part through it all was not being able to do anything. I couldn't lift anything or really stretch for fear of ripping it back open.
Had a check up in April and all was well. Few little things ~ my nipples are super sensitive (painfully sensitive rather than in a good way). Especially on the right which took forever to heal. Also have sharp pains sometimes in the side of it. Dr said not to worry about it, its just part of the healing and nerves trying to heal. Very common for the nerves to take longer considering how much he removed.

I never expected to have that long of down time for healing and I've lost so much of my muscle strength, even in my arms and legs. Now I'm trying to slowly build it back up. My abdominal muscles still hurt pretty easy doing too much heavy lifting and I can't press anything against my stomach or it hurts (like to lean against the counter or lay on my stomach on the floor) but that'll just take time. Still have numbness in the top of my leg which drives me crazy but guess it can take a year or so to come back.

I went for a long time not really being comfortable in normal bras except light stretchy sports bras but boobs finally softened up at about that 6 mth post op when they would actually move to sit properly in a bra. Only issue I find is the the scars under the right boob are still quite sensitive so the underwire is ok for a bit but can't do everyday yet for sure.

Still the most amazing part is not being in constant pain. My migraines are maybe one a month. I would do surgery over again in a heartbeat just to be free of the migraines!

Glad to hear you are doing better! Do you have current pictures? Curious to see how your scars are looking. Will you be getting a scar revision? I've kind of gone through some of what you have gone through. I will be getting scar revisions done at the end of the summer, if I decide to wait that long.

Starting to feel normal again...

What a difference 12 days makes since my last post! Started wearing my binder just part of the time. First few days were a little rough...just really uncomfortable and got sore really easy but it was so nice to give my ribs a break since the binder seemed to always be digging into them on either side. After a few days though I noticed a huge difference with my abdominal muscles getting stronger! Starting to feel normal again for the past week although without the binder on I get quite a bit of swelling as the day goes on. Go from this nice flat stomach in the morning to looking 5 mths pregnant by evening. Last 2 days have been less swelling though each day and able to do more so thats a huge difference!
My boobs have been healing pretty good in the last week. Scabs finally came of the left so looked a bit gross for a few days but doing better now. The right is healing really good around the nipple. Only a small area left to heal over compared to what it was. The big seperation on that boob is starting to heal. I can notice where there ia new skin coming in around the edges and the gross hole has filled in a lot! Still have to be really careful what I do though because I think I've pulled it apart a bit a few times... Like yesterday lifting something that I really shouldn't have...Opps. But at least its not hurting much now and seeing the problem areas get noticeably smaller is fantastic! Oh and I bought a few cheap regular bras without the wires its like a regular bra again!

This is the exact procedure(s) I am wanting have...36 DDD and tummy hang post babies... Sigh... Now just like you my boobs have always been a problem and I have hated them...big and droopy... So I was looking at the cost that you posted. Since the breast reduction is covered under provincial health, it still cost $12,000!! WOW!! I am in Ontario and I was hoping it would be less since some of the anesthesia and OR time would be covered. Maybe different here, different rates. Just still sitting on the fence... Thank you for posting your story!

The breast reduction was covered under AB Health so total cost was around $11500 and $1280 of that was directly to the hospital. Because I was having both procedures done at the same time I saved a few thousand dollars on hospital fees & anesthesiologist...I know there are other doctors doing it cheaper and quite a bit cheaper if you go to the States but I'm really happy with my dr. Honestly it was worth every penny to not be in pain anymore!

Oh and apparently you can claim a portion of it back on income tax so it'll be interesting to see when we do our taxes...

Well I would be happy too! You look fabulous... so very happy you've been to do this and feel good about your body. I think in the New Year I'm going to get for some consultations...and go with who I feel is best for me. Interesting you can claim some of that back on income taxes... Any idea the percentage or do you just enter the total amount and THEY decide what you back??

I'm not sure how much...I think its a percentage of your income. Things that are purely cosmetic (like lipo) I don't think you can claim but I had a lot of muscle repair done that was causing back problems so going to try. Also have had to make several trips back & forth to Calgary because of my boob incision seperating so should be able to claim travel expenses on that. Saving my receipts for all these bandages too cause those are adding up quick! I'll let you when I find out more...

Thank you... I'd like that! Keep up the healing! You look great!

Hi, CaperChick! I'm going to be following your healing process as I am currently going through it myself! Mine looks a little deeper than yours, but at the same area. I know I do a little too much which I am sure is slowing down the healing process. I do have pictures on my profile. Good luck to you!

Caperchick,so sorry to hear about your problems. I am 6 weeks tomorrow and have 2 small ulcers on vertical scar. My surgeon says a common occurence but I have been very tearful about it. He says "Rome was not built in a day" and to relax and let it heal. Have some diferent dressings to try. It is upsetting to read about people healing so well(happy for them) but find it hard to understand why I am not when I have done everything I should. Positive thinking my lovely and they will heal. Take care x

PS Looking at your pics I actually think the skin around the nipple is improving.

That "relax and let it heal" is easier said than done but I'm trying. My dr was surprised this happened and admitted it was the other boob he was a little worried about (so was I but its doing good). I think the steri-strips were holding in fluid and caused the desolvable stitches to just desolve too quick. They should've probably came off a little sooner. Hopefully everything heals from here on for both of us!
