Consultation: Bad Experience

Consultation: Bad Experience
I scheduled a consultation with Dr. Senderoff because he was the second surgeon on my list that I was genuinely looking forward to meeting. I live in NYC, so ideally I hoped to find a local surgeon for butt implants, although I am absolutely willing to travel for the right doctor.
The nursing staff was extremely polite and kind, which I appreciated. My experience with Dr. Senderoff himself, however, was mixed. He was not very personable and did not introduce himself warmly (for example, he did not shake my hand). During the consultation, I expressed concerns about existing scar tissue from prior butt implants and ongoing discomfort. I felt these concerns were somewhat dismissed, and I did not receive a clear or detailed plan for how my case would be handled.
When discussing my previous surgery, he asked whether the implants were intramuscular or subfascial. I explained they were intramuscular, and he commented that he does not like intramuscular placement because you need to go very deep into the muscle to achieve good results. I appreciated that insight, but when I asked what he would do specifically in my case, his response was simply that he would “probably just put it in the pocket you already have,” without much explanation. When I asked whether he would remove excess scar tissue before reinserting implants, given my discomfort, he responded that he “doesn’t like to mess around in there.” That response felt dismissive, especially since addressing scar tissue was a major reason for my consultation. While Dr. Senderoff was not rude, his demeanor felt cold and indifferent, and I did not feel particularly comfortable or reassured leaving the consultation.
The primary reason I am writing this review, however, is my experience with the staff member who handles pricing and scheduling (her name began with a “J”). Initially, she was very pleasant, and I appreciated her directness when discussing pricing. I was quoted $16,800, and immediately after stating the price, she asked, “Is that what you were expecting?” in a tone that felt uncomfortable. I responded that it sounded reasonable for this type of procedure. But who asks that? She then asked which other surgeons I was consulting with. I mentioned a few names, including Dr. David Schifrin (my original doctor who implanted and explanted) and Dr. Ryan Stanton, whom she recognized. She responded by asking, “But he’s in California, would you REALLY travel to see him?” I found that question (which seemed rhetorical) strange, as this is a major surgery and a revision case. Of course I would travel for the best surgeon if that’s what it takes.
When I explained that I was still in the process of meeting with other surgeons and attending consultations, her demeanor changed noticeably and became rude. She stated, “Well, you know Dr. Senderoff is the best surgeon for butt implants, he’s rated the best.” This statement felt extremely pushy, embarrassing for their reputation, and cheap.
I left the office with a very negative impression due to this interaction. Regardless of surgical skill, treating a patient with respect is what matters the most. Unfortunately, the attitude and behavior of this staff member overshadowed the visit and left a bad taste overall.
