Disappointing Experience As a Patient Model – Required Correction by Another Doctor
I participated as a patient model during a training course with Dr Roberto Chacur in Barcelona for gluteal/hip augmentation with hyaluronic acid filler.
Before the procedure, I was very clear about the result I wanted. I showed a reference photo of a natural, feminine shape with smoother hip dips and specifically asked whether the amount of filler planned would be enough to achieve that type of result. I was reassured that it would be.
What I was not informed about beforehand was that two different students would perform my treatment, with one student injecting one side of my body and another student injecting the other side. Had I known this in advance, I would never done it.
The two sides were treated differently and the results were noticeably different. Dr Chacur was not in the room while the students performed the initial treatment. When he examined me afterwards, further correction was needed, and he personally added approximately another 60 ml of filler.
Unfortunately, the main problem was not simply a lack of volume. Filler had been placed too high and too far forward rather than properly correcting my hip dips. This created unnatural protrusions and made my overall shape look much wider and boxier, while the hip dips I had specifically wanted treated were still clearly visible.
This was particularly upsetting because before the treatment I had specifically discussed the result I wanted and whether it was achievable with the planned amount. After the procedure, I was also told that my hip dips had been filled, although they were still visibly present.
I contacted the team because I was extremely unhappy with the result. Since I was in Madrid, the Brazil team arranged an in-person technical evaluation with Dr Sandra de Oliveira, a doctor they work with for patient follow-up in Spain. In their communication with me, they described Dr de Oliveira as the professional responsible for technically following my case and assessing whether adjustments were necessary.
When Dr de Oliveira examined me in person, she confirmed my concerns. She agreed that the result was boxy and unnatural and that filler had been placed too high and too far forward. She determined that correction was necessary.
Dr de Oliveira was informed by the Brazil team that they would cover the filler required for my correction. Based on that arrangement, she proceeded with the corrective treatment in Madrid and used another 100 ml of HA filler to try to restore a more natural shape.
What happened afterwards was particularly disappointing. After the correction had already been performed, the Brazil team refused to cover the cost of the corrective filler, despite having previously told Dr de Oliveira that they would do so. This left Sandra having to absorb the cost herself for correcting a problem she had not caused.
